Faint miner
« on: March 11, 2012, 09:08:38 pm »

So, one of my miners randomly was flashing with the impaired symbol, so I checked him and couldn't find any wounds. When I checked his wounds screen, he was Faint. I've heard this means that there's a vampire that's fed off him recently. So do I have a vampire or is there something that makes them faint without any other external causes?

When vamps get interrupted in a feeding, that can leave a dwarf with survivable blood loss.

Yup, just found another dwarf who was pale, so I'm pretty sure I have a leech.

Now to find who it is and lock 'em in a room to be my eternal accountant.

You may also have an actual leech, or mosquito.  They suck blood too!

Or, if you have my mod, you may have a flying leech.  Swarm.

Vampire activity is the best-case scenario. If the miner hauled a syndrome back from the depths that causes bleeding then the fort's probably doomed. Check for blood splatters.

Or the miner's inventory for blood coverings.

I'm in year two, so no forgotten beasts or anything to syndrome. The only blood spatters from the five dwarves that died from an incident involving an unlocked door and three very angry elk birds.

You're lucky(ish) it attacked miners. They're a bit more resilient to vamp attacks.

Yeah, the second one it attacked was a mason who turned up as pale instead of just faint.

Do vampires feed on other vampires? If not, then I see no disadvantage in converting the entire fort to them... Heh heh heh...
