Creativity, Musicality, Linguistic Ability, and (IIRC) Patience are all currently useless.

Incidentally, don't fast travel and you will hardly ever get ambushed.

Yep, that's what I read on the wiki, but somehow my mind decided to add intuition to that list, should have double checked.

I don't fast travel small distances so I can train ambusher and fight the wildlife, but I don't have the time nor the patience to walk long distances except when forced to (crossing mountains).

Sneak everywhere for your first ingame week, and you'll be at legendary+n Ambusher. Grab a couple soldiers from the nearest keep, and fast-travel with impunity. When you get ambushed, let the companions suck up the arrows while you dash to the nearest pond or patch of trees to sneak. Refill your companions whenever you have <3.

And of course starting with good endurance and willpower will help you suck up the pain if you do get tagged, at least long enough to get into sneak and crawl off to recover.

I feel inclined to point out ambushes are deadly in real life...

just sayin, everytime dwarf fortress gets more brutally realistic people whine about it for weeks.

as far as surviving them goes, bring a peasant mob.
with 2h weps, try carrying a shield until a battle starts, then dropping it when you get attacked.

In real life broken bones take 2 or 3 months to heal, miner picks don't severe limbs like lightsabers and you can't become a black belt ju-jutsu master by wrestling a kitten for half a day. I don't think complete realism is the holy grail for any game or videogames, especially the ones involving violence. "Urist McHero dies from high cholesterol" doesn't seem very fun (though, on second thought, it will be hilarious). Anyway that's not the point since I'm not complaining about ambushes, only seeking advice to have a better chance against them.

read the second half of my post, you seem to be taking the banditry buff quite well, most people are outraged by crossbows actually being able to kill people.
2h weapons are worth the lack of a shield though, very deadly.

also its confirmed that picks in combat are off right now, as well as learn rates for wrestling. these will be made better eventually. (also um, are you not doing that knowing its an exploit? kinda ruins using it as an argument  :P)

No prob bombzero, I misunderstood you and thought you implied I was whining, hence the little rant.

I'll try the carry a shield and drop it tactic, as I really like the extra "punch" 2h weapons have.
