So it's sand and cactuses, in space on a rusty steamy ship, filled with cthulhu monsters, and madness preaching kumquats? Really? And you are confident that it won't fall apart?

I mean I'll play either way. I'm all for the wild settings. I just don't want the setting to become cumbersome.
I agree.  I hate to have setting get in the way of things (part of the reason it's easier just to choose setting early on like this).
But I meant by western late 1800's early 1900's style technology, but still advanced steampunk stuff.  I guess sort of like really gritty steampunk.

Also, Not.The.sand.and.catcus.kind.of.western. I have been trying to get this point across for a while, the ship was desgined to look steampunk with a bit of wild west town thrown in. Not the howdy pardner leta kill some monsters in the plains hyuck hyuck kind of western.
Also ninja'd me here.  Bingo.

What's Westworld? Also, has anyone seen Rango? Imagine most towns built after the Crisis to look kind of like Dirt but with a lot more post apoc steampunk thrown in.

That's too... I dunno, electronic.  We are talking steampunk, here.
Meaning advanced tech powered by steam, but with the grit and style of a western.  Along with Lovecraft-esque mindhorrors on board.

Steam powered andriod cowboys who got possesed by the dark ones and started to actually ransack the place instead of pretending, few visitors are now stuck on the hell hole Dustland resort.

I get that is your point. I thought someone was arguing for that. Oy. I'll let you guys figure that out. I seem to be causing more problems than fixing them so I'll just begin when the environment gets worked out.

Don't forget the entire post apoc thing.

Western Grit + Steampunk + Lovecraft = Creepy ass apocolypse style most of the time anyways.  We shouldn't have to worry about that.

Anyways, screw the 24, imma go ahead and start some writing and some backstory.

Get yer characters ready!

I got my charcter ready. I'll whip up some NPC's.

Isayah Hanler

Male

Isayah runs The Still. His moto is "As cheap as possible" so quite often what you will be drinking has probably never touched fruit and resembles turpentine. He runs The Still which, despite also being a still, is the local tavern. Not exactly a snakepit like some hangouts, where the only hand not in your pocket is that 20 credit whore you bought and your own, it does have a nasty sort run through every now and again. Usually most liquors are just a cocktail of the last bits of other batches of drinks so every time you come in "the usual" is always different. The only other thing on tap besides cheap booze and a couple of whores is information, but nothin' comes for free.

Anyways, getting some shut-eye now.  See you all and your characters in 6-9 hours.  Don't clutter the thread up too bad ;)

Residential District 8- The residential districts, for the most part resemble metal dorms. They also have parks with simulated sunlight, community gardens, small cafes, etc peppered in between the monotonous hallways of apartments. Almost every residential district now is either empty or a hotspot for "They Who Now Are" or whatever they call themselves. Two residential districts were able to hole up and usually fight eachother for food, weapons, or workers when they aren't fighting other things. Residential distrct 8  is empty, for the most part.

Archival district 8- Archive districts are what function for libraries. The place is entire archives of sorted punchcards. You pick out the text you want to read and insert it into a machine and it will print out the specific book you want to read on receipt paper. People have taken to burning the receipt paper and punchcards as certain sections lose heat from power failures (the most common book for printing and burning was "The Red Badge of Courage, coining the term"Ya got courage?" when someone would be asking if you feel prepared). Punchcards and receipt paper has become a rarity because of this, so getting information from computers is often difficult.

Docking/Shuttle Bays A-K PSD (Port Side Declination)- The docking and shuttle bays were used for operating small shuttles and crafts to repair the ship or do an external activity. The bay doors have long since been welded completely shut. Since the bays are all connected on the port side, one could walk entire miles of painted asphalt, rusted metal, and failing simulated lights to find only heaps of scrap or nothing at all.

Hold on. I got more.

Agricultural decks- The agricultural decks are levels that are only 8 feet high and are seperated by a spongy flooring and UV lights so water pumped to the top levels flows down to the bottom. Hydroponics to the next level, these decks are layers and layers of bright purple lights, steamy hot climate, knee deep swamp water, and a variety of climates slammed into one. One deck may be miles and miles of wheat and if you drop down a level it would be a thick jungle. In the chaos some plants are moving into levels where they don't belong, becoming veritable weeds. Of note, kumquats are fairing surprisingly well against more parsitic plants and taking a sizeable region of it's own. These decks are now very dangerous as some creatures now make them their homes here.

Administrative District- No longer used by anyone the administrative district housed most of the on ship desk jobs. Miles and miles of cubicles and watercoolers with no ceiling, but pipes peeking through. Since this place is relatively unused one never knows what they will see here. This section receives little maintainence and flooded or districts burnt to a crisp aren't completely uncommon. Admitadly, one will tell you, there is one use to the administrative districts; A back way. They connect to most places, but you may hike for weeks before getting there.

The Marketing Plaze- A place taken over by things that shouldn't be there. Those that venture there do not come back. Do not go there. Do not go there.

Foundry Teir- Decks 433-438- Originally used for fabricating ship parts, the whole teir has been reformatted and expanded to make weapons, baricades, whatever. Many shops have popped up in the teir and tote their wares. Since they are all made from the same metals and using mostly the same tools, if one is better than the other is often not entirly obvious, still though some people swear by some brands while others just shoot straight and pray. Hot, steamy, dirty, and loud, it is an awful place to live and yet, plenty manage to eek out an existance. Hot as hell, water is used like currency here.

Point five decks- In some decks hatches have been crudely cut in between the floors to allow for access without the use of a lift. This is ideal except for the fact that on a steam and clockwork powered ship you are bound to have moving parts. The point fives are where they hid them. Massive moving parts will swing past in a foot or two wide space at rapid speeds. The saying is "It's like hopping train tracks. Ninety-nine percent of the time, when you hop them there isn't a train on them." Very few people are injured by point fives but when they are, it is almost always fatal. The idea of something living in a point five is laughable.
