Where are you, serpent woman??

So, I'm finally starting to get the hang of adventure mode.  My newest human demigod maceman has completed enough quests to amass a huge gang of companions and get quests from the local lord.  The most recent quest is to kill a "criminal" serpent woman.  The only clue as to where she is is the name of the city, which happens to be a huge capital.  How am I supposed to find her?

The "TSK" on my compass points me to an empty field at the edge of town - the same empty field I was pointed to when I was hunting a vampire, who was living in the keep (the serpent woman is not in the keep).  Is there anywhere in particular I should be looking?  I hope not the sewer or the dungeon; I got hopelessly lost looking for that vampire in the dungeon before I realised he was just hanging out on the main floor with the nobles, and I just spent a DAY trudging through the sewers to find a vampire that was living down there...

Hmm, I had a quest to kill a werebeast that played out similarly until I found a lair on the outskirts of town. The target was inside (unarmed and human, naturally). Have you checked the edges of the city?

Forget about quests. It's almost impossible to find quest criminals in sewers.

If she was told to be in sewers... hope that you get lucky and she finds you. If the town has river running nearby, you could check there since sewers usually lead to that river and usually you can find couple of criminal gangs hiding in them. Though you got to lure them out since you'd drown in there. Checking the nearby river usually nets you atleast a few dead leaders you can go brag about
Also, it trains your swimming :)

Nobody said she was in the sewers, just that she was in the city.  Just took another stroll around those sewers, and the do contain quite a number of serpent man/women skeletons, could that be an indication of anything?  No living creatures anywhere around that I could find, though.  Pretty sure I hit every corridor, though it's hard to be sure...  I'll go check those outskirts again...

Edit:  Well, just spent another half hour wandering the stinkin' sewers, with no luck...  Here's another question, though, is there anything special one needs to do in order to swim?  I can't seem to get into any body of water I've tried, neither rivers nor the water in the sewers.  I would think all I'd need to do is walk onto a downward slope leading into the water, but it doesn't seem to work...

Edit2: Figured it out (alt+direction to "move carefully" down the ramp), and promptly drowned.  So, problem solved, serpent woman gets to live another day.

Well... that's one way to "complete" a mission...

However, I've had similar problems before as well. The ebst place to search is in teh catacombs under the city, either through the keep or a temple. The best way to do that is, well... Wander around until you find them. Be wary that the minions will respawn when you re-enter the area, though.

I can honestly say that I never have problems finding criminals in the sewers/dungeons and the outskirts of towns. I guess I'm either having amazing luck or a great deal of patience.

The fish people often live in places where you can't reach them without drowning. My best successes have been becoming a vampire so I don't drown and searching the furthest reaches of the sewers.

Amphibian animal people almost always hide at the point in which the sewers are linked with the city river.
Search there first. If you can't find them there, do not bother. Get a different quest.

In my worlds it has been like this so far:

The sewers had some entrances in the city that lead to empty tunnels with a few skeletons iinside.

But on the riverbanks there are also entrances every few steps. Each entrance holds a species of sewer dwelling creatures (serpentmen, olmmen, etc.).
Usually there is a bunch of them lingering around close to the river. With a bit of luck Boss/Weaponmaster/Chieftain/... is amongst them.
Just check by and if its not there, fast travel a step and come back.
