Body size increments?
« on: March 11, 2012, 01:54:00 pm »

Are changes to body size that occur due to age incremental day-by-day, or do they happen all at once at the specified years?

For example, dragons have:
   [BODY_SIZE:0:0:6000]
   [BODY_SIZE:1000:0:25000000]

The wiki describes a range of sizes for dragons, from birth, to age 23 to age 80, to age 200, etc., implying that the body size change is incremental day-by-day, and doesn't only happen "all at once" on the days specified in the BODY_SIZE tags.

Is this correct? Every in-game day (since BODY_SIZE can be specified down to the day), the game really subtracts specified age X1 from specified age X2, subtracts specified size at age X1 from specified size at age X2, then divides the second total by the first total, and adds the resulting few cubic centimeters of size to the creature?

This seems highly unlikely, since you can specify sizes at multiple ages anyway, as with minotaurs (chosen as an example; this is used for dwarves and many others):
   [BODY_SIZE:0:0:10000]
   [BODY_SIZE:1:168:50000]
   [BODY_SIZE:12:0:220000]

Which is correct? If growth really does only happen "all at once" on the specified days, it means that dragons area pretty tiny until they reach 1000 years old.

Yeah, growth is incremental.

Specifying size at different ages allows you control the rate of growth between those ages. You could make a creature grow slower as it ages, for example.
