« on: March 11, 2012, 01:06:55 pm »

hey guys, i've got a fort of about 129 dorfs, however i have a ridiculous amount of vampires and no matter how many i find and convict more and more just pop up. i have about 3 deaths a month because of the damn vampires. anyways, is there a way that i can get rid of them for good, or is there like a dwarf therapist for detecting vampires? any help is appreciated

Screen your migrants before you let them into your fort  ::)

Lock all dwarves in a room, let out any that get hungry, until only never-hungry dwarves are left. Then fill the room with magma.

I recently discovered that vampires can't drown. So flood your fortress! Those who survive are most likely vampires.

1.  Vampires will have a long list of previous memberships.  I don't mean half-a-dozen.  I mean a lo-o-o-ng list, taking up 15 or 20 lines under Thoughts and Preferences.

2.  Ordinary Dwarf Therapist will help because it will display the real name of every Dwarf.  DF displays the fake name a vampire is using at the moment.  If you have a mis-match between the two programs, that Dwarf is a vampire.

3.  Vampires also have great social skills compared to your other migrants.

4.  There is a variant of Dwarf Therapist, I think by splinterz, that displays the cursed Dwarves.

5.  I just discovered that vampires can die of infections!  I put three vampires into 1x1 outdoor walled areas each with a lever to keep them occupied.  These were open to the sky.  A Great Horned Owl attacked one.  It mangled his nose and both ears, as well as giving the vampire various other injuries.  When the vampire succumbed, the cause was given as death by infection.  There was a puddle of Dwarf Pus in the cell.

Ye, infections are the usual reason why my vampires die after a decent hammering.

I've been skipping the whole 'Justice' process and just dropping a bridge on them...

I have 160 dwarves and not a single vampire/werecreature :(

You might want to intentionally make all of your dwarves into vampires via vampire blood. They'll stop killing your dwarves after you run out of normal dwarves.
