What do you fill your weapon traps with?
« on: March 11, 2012, 12:23:50 pm »

Just wondering what your strategies are for this.

What I usually do is 9 giant silver corkscrews (a use for galena, that and lead bins) and one giants  serrated green glass disk (varies, but on my current fort there is no sand, have to trade for it). It's very effective at  smashing skulls through bains w/o too much of a mess.

EDIT: make that 15. Not sure what took that last one so long.

Not a big fan of weapon traps, though I do use them, typically with the Goblinite weapons that I'm too lazy to melt down. Not amazing, but they help in a pinch, if nothing else, good for weakening opening waves for my small man military to mop up.

I don't utilize weapon traps often... But when I do, crossbows.

Usually I like to put Wep traps in areas of High animal traffic  nad use them as "Auto Butchering" machines
Mostly to keep animals from wandering into the fort from above or below.

What do I put in the traps themselves? Blades, lots and lots of blades.

Low quality wooden or bone crossbows, low quality weapons (including gobbo crap and some human stuff) and serrated disks.

Or spiked silver balls.

10 wooden spikes each, on maps with enough wood.
Keeps the annoying animals out but doesn't damage the goblins too seriously, so they can still fight when they meet my military.
Exactly the way I want it.

3 green glass discs each. It's a long way down if they fall off the platform while dodging.

Whips and daggers are also good options, as they get great penetration.

Usually wooden spiked balls, they're meant simply to make the intruder dodge into a pit for processing.

If I have either sand or some cheap metal like copper, I use one each of serrated disk, giant spike, giant axe blade, spiked ball, for a total of four weapons per trap.

If I only have junk from dead people, I use three weapons per trap.  I try to use one blunt, one piercing, and one slashing.

Trap components I get from Dwarven traders. 2 in each weapon trap, with a max of about ten weapon traps.
