Spears, for the nice stabbiness (and because I've figured out that even a wooden spear can be lethal!); swords, because they let me stab OR slice; and, if I'm not feeling bad about using a 3rd weapon which happens to be overpowered, whips, because they don't get stuck in wounds, ever.

Whips, Knives, and thrown shit for me. Sometimes I end up using that copper spear you get when you don't start with any proper weapon skill.

Long swords and halbreds.

Because both can stab and slash, they are good all-rounders.

Also I carry lots of blunt weapons as throwin ammo. Silver flails do some serious damage when headshotted.

Does slapping and pommeling do any damage without legendary+5 swordsman-skill? I've never used them.

I've found that pommeling can be effective at times as a way to break bones or cause pain. Slapping I tend to reserve as a training method.

Once an adventurer of mine, after frequently stabbing, slashing and cutting a Titan to the point of it's near death, it grabbed me, and at this point I was certain it was going to deliver it's poisonous bite, or break my bones. Then, giving up and not being able to break away, I charge, and I strike its leg with the pommel of my sword, shattering the bone. With this new found knowledge, I caved in its skull. Pommels, the adventure mode magnet.

Add slapping and pommeling - slapping is quite useless, because it has too large contact area. Pommel strike is quite good, especially if you are stuck with inferior dense metal starting weapon like silver shortsword - pommel strike against hands and feet easily crushes bones, incapacitating foes. It effectively gives your slashing and stabbing sword a little hammer also, making it the most versatile package.

I prefer using spears. My conservative fighting method of stab their hands until they can't hold anything works really well, and spears are the best for that kind of fighting, I find.
