Dwarf Fortress gives you a good variety of weapons for your adventurer. What type of weapon is your favorite to use? Swords, axes, bows, stones, etc? Body parts included, whether they be connected to your body or removed from someone elses'. This is a thread to share your favorite tool and method of doling out the harshness.

I usually allocate to a sword. They are easy to use, and a slash from a skilled adventurer can de-leg and de-life a hostile with a few quick aimed shots. I also like whips and scourges. A couple lashes can make them give into pain via chipping bones, and a lash to a prone, defenseless head can finish the job quickly.

I haven't had much success with crossbows and other ranged weapons, though. They seem to be effective in killing, but limited ammo is a no, and an adventurer with a major-league throwing arm can match a crossbow with a sharpened pebble.

Playing as a serpent person is pretty rad, though. Your bites are venomous!

Of course, the only fighting my serpentman did was 20 cats and a couple of geese. He was hungry, don't judge

It's excellent against any foe. It tears the unarmored apart and jams the helmets of armored foes through their skulls. A great all-round weapon, but doesn't feel cheap like a boning knife (which would work just as well for an all-rounder) - my first move in any adventure is finding one now.

I once played around a world - looking for the most effective of misc weapons. I killed a rhesus monkey and used it's corpse as a weapon. It was surprisingly effective - good for head shots. 

But overall, I like swords and axes - good for decapitation and chipping bones (once you start shattering and chipping your enemy's bones, I find they're not much of a threat)

I usually use knives.
Sometimes I'll use two swords, or if I'm a dwarf I'll use an axe and a hammer.
I...very rarely use shields, except to throw them. I also tend to keep a bunch of spears with me on every character, to throw. Speaking of ranged attacks, I also like to use crossbows.

My favorite is a Pick/any two handed weapon + wrestling with the free hand.
For humiliations, I take off a boot and smack my opponent to death with it.

Pick axe. It feels like mining skill raises faster than any other weapon skill, plus you get surprisingly many "severed parts flies off in a arc" messages when using pick axe.

axe and fist. the two together are like a razor, one picks your head up and the other neatly removes it.

I like the slashing-stabbing combo of swords. Bare-handed eye gouging is also rewarding.
