Adventure mode swimming problem
« on: March 11, 2012, 02:37:40 am »

So I'm trying to get into the sewers of a city, so I try going in via river. Unfortunately, the only adjacent water is a brook. So I go further down stream where the brook opens up into a river. I go in and swim my way underneath the brook all the way up to the city. Anyways, I do my business and then I decide to make my way back out. About half way through the brook section it, I am unable to move. I use the careful move option, and am able to move a little further maybe 10-20 blocks. And then I am unable to move again, in ANY direction using the careful move option. I tried removing my iron boots and then am able to move freely for another 20 blocks. And then I am unable to move. I use the careful move option and move a few more spaces and now am unable to move at all in any direction. Tried removing everything.

Possible relevant information:
I am vampire, currently an expert swimmer, I swimmed consecutively for about 300-500 blocks, I am thisty (have not fed on blood for several days)

Also the question is "why can't I move?"

The first things coming to mind are if the injuries on your leg are somehow preventing you from moving, or your adventurer is covered in a million billion invisible sewer leeches.

But I am not an expert on Dwarf Fortress so I'm afraid I can't help you much.

Probably water flow issues. Keep [ALT] moving to shallower water

Water current affects your movement speed in water, which explains the part where you remove your iron boots, therefore reducing your weight and being able to move further.
What I can't explain is why you can't move in any direction anymore, except if you meant that you can't move in any direction but back to where you came from.

If vampires don't get blood for a while, they become weaker. I think Toady mentioned somewhere that after a week without feeding, their skill rolls begin to falter. Your adventurer has a leg would, which might slow him down further.
This shouldn't cause your adventurer to become too weak to move, though. It would help if you posted some screenshots or the save.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

I've found that using "s" to sit gets you out of such situations.
