"Felsite" is the name of the 3rd month of the dwarven calendar, covering late Spring. "
In previous versions, Felsite was also an igneous extrusive layer stone; it has subsequently been replaced with Dacite.

I know this is a very old change, but how did i not notice the fact that dwarves have a month named after a nonexistant stone?
Anyone think this should be considered a bug, or just think it's interesting in some way?
Further digging shows that Felsite is more of a type of rock consisting of dacite, andesite, rhyolite etc, so maybe it's not wrong for a month to be named after it, but still I wonder how i didn't notice it was gone.

I think Felcite sounds better, and that Toady should change it back.

I also consider it a bug.

if toady sees it, he will either close it or "fix" it.

Toady just decided to remove the stone from the game, and leave the calendar alone. The same way: why isn't there any rhodonite or mantmorillonite in the game

As far as I know, "felsite" was removed/renamed because it doesn't refer to a specific-enough type of rock. That doesn't mean the concept doesn't exist, or anything like that.

Obviously, if Toady plans to add it back at some point, the calendar is fine, but if Felsite is out for good, the calendar should change to reflect that. We don't have months named after fictional Roman emperors, after all.

Real gods though, sure gods may be fictional but if they were really worshipped that arguably makes them not fictional.

It's not that felsite doesn't exist to dwarves, it's that no stone in the game is identified as "felsite" because "felsite" is too general a term for the game to use to identify a particular stone type, or otherwise uses a sort of classification that DF's stone typing doesn't.

Rename Dacite back to Felsite? Problem solved. They're functionally identical if I recall anyways.

So yes, pretty much. Note that felsic is the name of a group of light-colored silicates that occur in igneous rocks.

The stone and the month should both be renamed mantmorillonite.  It's a much cooler word.
