About the new towns
« on: March 11, 2012, 01:54:45 am »

This is my first adventurer on DF 2012, I've been to 4 different towns and it's all the same, hundreds of worthless cloth/clothing/gem/furniture shops and very VERY few armor/weapon shops, actually I could only find armor shops in 2 of the towns and both of em had nothing at all to sell.... is this normal?

Also the game slows down to a crawl whenever I'm in a town, it's really annoying.

That's my experience. You could try checking out imported goods shops, and maybe markets?? I'm not sure what markets sell, but imported goods stores have weapons/ammo/armor occasionally.

The best way to get awesome armor/weapons: (**SPOILER WARNING**)

I don't ever experience unplayable amounts of lag as an adventurer. I have a core2duo clocked at 3GHz.

Markets tend to have weapons, though you can very easily get a full set of armor and weapons just by visiting a couple forts and picking over the treasure (free for the taking) on the inside.

And yes, large amounts of large are consistently observed near keeps and markets.

From a logical standpoint, having few weapon and armor suppliers makes sense. Not convenient for an adventurer, but for the actual townsfolk of the village/town/city. They don't really need a +bronze scimitar+, but they do need a new pair of socks.

Well I guess that makes sense, still it doesn't give me much of a incentive to sell/buy stuff at shops because I do not need any cloth, clothing or furniture, other than the occasional food purchase which itself is not that much needed given you can easily find many wild animals to butcher for food.

I feel like in the last version the economy made more sense because of that, at least you had a reason to sell stuff.

edit: also it seems the slow down only happens when near a keep in a town... weird, but it REALLY slows it, I've tried many different modes(2D, 2DASYNC, VBO) all the same, I've only experienced a FPS drop this bad with a fort filled with dwarfs during a massive siege.
