We've designated the area to begin work, and gotten to it.  We've decided to tunnel out that little ground tower to make it into our single point of entry, where it will hopefully be defendable against whatever evil lurks towards us.
Shortly after we began, the sun came out and warmed us.  The snow melted, which helped remove the chill from our bones.

From atop the tower we've spotted things flying in the distance.  We hope they cannot see as far as us.

The landscape is miles of rolling dunes of crimson sand.

We make the trek down the mountain and around, the tower proving inaccessible from where we set up, due to the canyon cut by the bubbling brook below.  But soon enough we arrive and begin to claw into the soft sand.

As we tunnel down, we make quick preperations for small rooms to store our goods and attempt a few simple farms.
An area is designated for a main foyer, and we strike prase along the way.

Then we hear the sounds of a ruckus nearby.  We find one of our horses being mauled by a giant undead mosquito.  The horror is considerable, and Spinal Taper is sent reluctantly to fend it off.  It is already too late to save the horse, but we fear for the other livestock and our people.

Charging valiantly in, Spinal Taper blocks a charge from the mangled horror, nearly knocking him off the cliff beside where the fight occured.  He rises quickly and strikes a glancing blow across the beast's head, smashing it to the side of the cliff.  But then it leaps forward and shoves him over the side.  He falls several stories onto the icy brook below, breaking both feet and his right hand.  A few moments pass as the stun passes before he looks to his wrist, seeing the bone sticking out from the flesh, oozing blood.  Then, he screams.

[Hehe, not the best start for our group!]

I'll take Thol Tunnelwebbed. I'm fine with being the god of darkness. For now.

Beuracracy!  What should we do?

A)  Keep truckin' and hope Spinal makes it.
B)  Mount a rescue mission
C)  Hole up and try to make it without our animals, supplies, or hammerdwarf?
C)  Hole up like above, until we can flood the landscape with magma.

A flat pebble with a pair of nearly circular worn depressions, flattened a little on the left side and slightly offset from the pebble's center, briefly becomes very noticable beside the tunnel entrance. (could this be a sign?)

If it is at all possible, Aval will do his best to heal (through hacking) the mogun Spinal_Taper, though he is not one of the faithful. Aval decrees that it would be a travesty for one of the founders to die so soon, and at this momentous beginning would like to offer miracles during the first year.

Because it is both tragic and boring for a community game to end so soon.

Is the monster currently attacking the wounded warrior? If not, attemtp to mount a rescue mission without disturbing the monster, e.g., dig a tunnel to right under him.

If so, arm everyone and attempt to finish the thing off.

... attemtp to mount a rescue mission ... dig a tunnel to right under him.

While I like any plan involving digging, I just have to mention that it's clear you really, really, really are a 'Frogwarrior' (that is, amphibious, and expect all the dwarves to be)  :P

Yeah, he's ontop of ice, and it could theoretically thaw.  If we dug into it, we'd have to be quite careful lest it flood the fortress.

As for Aval, I am afraid that healing is outside of your sphere.  (DFHack can't heal wounds.)

Aval also realizes that his followers must pay some sort of price in exchange for a miracle of that calibre.

And what do the other gods think of this?

And what do the other gods think of this?

I enjoy each god being, well, different.  We have different spheres, powers (if any), personalities, writing styles.  For that matter, could not a god of anything occasionally tap into or through another god's spheres?  A mogun (Thanks, Hugo, for my reminder that these are not dwarves!) having a nightmare about a cavern, that would arguably touch the spheres of both nightmares and caverns; healing a mogun who was hurt in a cave in while that mogun remains underground arguably has influence of both caverns and healing.

If we were -really- going to get into limiting and empowering gods (since we as participating gods want to do stuff, this is NOT as yet the mogun or their players asking us for anything, so -we- especially should 'pay' that price), I'd like to see the gods as having some 'currency' to spend to do what each pleases, a budget if you will; and the more solidly that thing you do fits within your sphere(s) and the more strongly those directly affected by it (if anyone is directly affected) worships you, then the less it costs you.  Minor things would cost less than more significant things, vague things would cost less than more specific.

But who wants to keep track of this?  And are not the gods a distant and 'weak' force upon the true framework of the mogun's lives and their choices?  So I expect each god will more or less handle their actions however they please, with some moderation through our janglur, should he want to moderate something.

You basically stated elloquently what i'm doing.  =D

Just that Spinal Tapper has come to a dwarfy end for a mogun, or at least it looks that way.  Who knows what will happen in a month's time in the game.  It's already chaotic and they've barely struck dirt.  So there's gotta be some crazyness associated with divine intervention!  Perhaps a god objects, and while one heals the mogun, another decides to turn his wife to an alpaca.  Of course until DFusion and such are updated we're rather limited in the chaos we can do.

That's why there's 2 beurocracies:  I expect them to argue, hold up critical decisions, and come to compromises with silly sidenotes.  This is supposed to be !!FUN!!

A lot could happen here.  Perhaps the beurocrats demand a no-mogun-left-behind policy, but the players of the mogun say 'Screw him, turtle up!'  Which results in the beurocracy implementing some silly policy to punish them.  And perhaps a God is offended by this new policy and makes it a point to demand that his followers do something untoward to the non-followers?  Or perhaps the mogun get sick of the beurocracy and implement a noble-torture fortress?  Or does the beurocracy reinforce the fort with soldiers and it becomes a police state?
Oh, the infinite possibilities for madness and chaos are endless!
