Hmm, cant get in anymore.
It just gives me one green block and thats it.
I must have messed up somewhere.

EDIT:
nvm.

EDIT2:

This is how you setup puTTY to work.

You just download the exe, launch it up and type

LunacyInc.privatedns.org

in server tab, 8000 in port and right beneath that, you set it to telnet.
Then you click open and youre in.

EDIT3:

I just found the PERFECT font for this.
Its the CP437 font, aka ASCII extended, aka font that df uses.
heres the link:
just download and install.
http://www.dafont.com/perfect-dos-vga-437.font
Nevermind, ABG linked me this, it looks much better and much more dfy then the cp437 one.
Nevermind the nevermind, the first is better, the second has some missing characters

Was wondering where you went...

Girlinhat-- PM me, and I will help you set up sftp in Firefox.  Then you can poke the raws.

Also, all linux distros come with a telnet client (Telnet), as does windows (Telnet)

I am using the stock linux telnet right now...
Actually, not all linux distros or versions of Window have telnet by default any more.  I think Vista does, but Windows 7 does not have telnet by default.  All the linux distros that lack telnet have the package available for installation, however.  I know I had to add it specifically on my linux system (not that I use it much due to ssh).

Well, that was... slow. Is the DFTerm only way?
Surely there are other ways to set up a remote access, can't we have a simple remote desktop with only df window allowed?

Also, terminal doesn't recognize shift+arrow so I've set fast scrolling to IJKL (uppercase).

You should've gathered a few people beforehand and have a predetermined event. I would've connected earlier but the first time I saw this thread was 11PM last night.

Its sad. I have completely missed out on my own netplay, because I had to spend all day doing automotive work.

The universal joints weren't the problem. (That is what I suspected it was.) Problem was a bad starnut adjuster in my drum brake on the rear driver side, and a bad rear bearing seal.

Trucks rear is still on jackstands while the rtv silicone seal on the differential cures. It will be tomorrow before we wrench it down tight and refill the rear end to check for leaks.

Hooray.

Hey, Girlinhat, about that random raw editing project - if you need someone to code up a script for you that does that, I'd totally be game. I know a fair bit of Perl and Python, and have been wanting to work on random object generation for something. DF raw modifications would certainly be a good way to start, especially if I have someone to help test it, and to provide feedback :).

So, your ideas and feedback + my coding skill = !!FUN!!?

I've got coding skills myself, it's just that the C++ that I know is a little unwieldy when trying to modify a text file.  I suspect Python would be infinitely easier for this, just need to learn it...

Ah, yep, yep. Native regex support is always nice to have, along with Python's other text-friendly features.

Then i left due to homework.

Over the weekend, I got to try using PuTTY against DFTerm... Does *NOT* look the same under xubuntu's terminal emulator.

Here, Here's a screenshot of what I see running in linux:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The best I can tell, PuTTY is not completely VT102 compliant, or is not properly negotiating the connection type when using the default settings.

I have a win2k machine I use for retrogaming downstairs that I will do horrible windows client experiments on until I find a suitably high quality replacement for PuTTY

I noticed....

After reading more on PuTTY, I think the problem is how it is interpreting escaped ansi sequences. This would explain the cloned characters spilling over the window, and the incorrect border text.

I will attempt several configuration options on the 2k machine downstairs until I get it to do things RIGHT, then I will share the settings information.

One thing I noticed which may explain the poor performance people reported with PuTTY, is that the default baudrate is set at 38400.  This is essentially the same as a 33.6k modem. TCP/IP connections are not constrained by wire baudrates like this, and setting it this low for a straight up ethernet using terminal server is just plain dumb, unless you are using an actual modem. Thanks PuTTY.  This value can be set higher, so I would suggest setting it to at LEAST 115200, which is equivilent to a very high end serial port connection with a good cable.  I dont know if PuTTY will let you set the baud higher than that though.

You can try adding a zero or two behind that value, and see what happens. :D

I will continue my experiments on PuTTY until I get a proper display out of it.
