It's by Paradox Interactive, so at least it's a good company that's deriving from DF.

I'm split on Paradox.  I immediately like them, but the whole "Magika is cheap, but now buy 20 micro-expansions!" has me wary.  I'm sure they'll do a good technical job, probably a pretty great job coming from the people who made Mount and Blade, but I'm not sure how good of a marketing job they'll perform.

Eh, it's like tv and movies. There really isn't anything truly original anymore. Look hard enough, and you'll find similarities to something previous in everything. :p

Um... itīs not like dwarf fortress invented any genre. Itīs from 2002 which actually makes it a pretty new game in terms of computer gaming history. There were tons of games published earlier which might in turn have inspired Toady.

It's a Dungeon Keeper style Game with Dwarfs, nothing like Dwarf Fortress

I think he growls too much.  Almost as is he's trying to be a pirate dorf or something.

Amusing that every other comment on YouTube is to the effect that's it's a DF ripoff.

IIRC, Mount and Blade wasn't made by PI, just marketed by them.  :P

Seeing as I've never experienced any major disappointments from Paradox, I'd actually be willing to give it a try. Of course it could never fill the same shoes as DF, but that doesn't instantly make it horrible.

This pretty much says it all
Imo, nothing can even come close to dwarf fortress, not in game, nor in community.
But that doesnt make the other games horrible.
