Abandoned Town
« on: March 09, 2012, 07:24:01 pm »

Anyone get this? I march to the capital city, there about 10 or so buildings - 8 of them or more are abandoned shops (and occasionally a house). I haven't got to mess around with the new version much so I don't why this happened. So can anyone explain this to me?

Yep. Happened to me first city I visited in the update. I was like "Oh Toady. You forgot the people."

Presumably because the inhabitants all died or moved away.

Check the town's history in Legend Viewer. Maybe it got attacked by a megabeast and lost.

I encountered one that was inhabited only by tame animals.  Only structures were bridges across the river.

Maybe that the dwarves never died and everyone is just shunning them.
"Wait, what are you doing?  I don't want to go in there!  No, I'm still alive, you can't do this to me!  Is Anybody listening?  Hello... Can someone let me out?  Help me!  Is anyone there?  I'm running out of air!"

Deserted towns with (almost) nobody in them are common and kind of creepy. No one seems to mind if you pick the loot out of the abandoned shops.

My favorite one had the demon/false god and a bunch of dead and dying kobolds in the keep, and absolutely nothing else.

What's the length of history in your world? The one time that I genned a 1000 year history this version, it seemed like towns and cities were a lot more deserted than in my 250 year history worlds. Not that the shorter worlds are devoid of ghost towns, of course, just that they seem less frequent, and mostly limited to hamlets.

That might be the problem. My world is 395 years old.

My adventure world has a completely deserted capital town. The only people left are in the keep. There were multiple vampires there.

My world has a lively, bustling town with many shops, but I've seen a lot of crumbled, abandoned houses in my time also.

It's not uncommon for hamlets and villages to be deserted, but entire towns? Spooky.

in my experiance, most abandoned cities are lead by vampires. thats my own experience though, I did have one that kept getting attacked by a hydra until almost everything was gone.
