Collecting bolts
« on: October 18, 2006, 05:13:00 pm »

My marksdwarfs seem to leave an awful lot of perfectly good bolts lying around after attacks.

Is there some mechanic to gather them are must they be considered as used?

Most of them are destroyed in use; they leave a symbol to show that they were broken. Sometimes they will appear like a normal bolt; in those cases your archers can reuse them. (This can be annoying, though, if you don't want them carrying around only one bolt at a time...)

I'd rather have all used bolts break once they're used until piles can be added to one another.  It's annoying having to make my marksdwarves change their weapons so they drop the quiver with 1 bolt in it and get another.

Usually if I have an Ammo storage designated with someone producing bone or metal bolts this isn't a problem. Otherwise-unoccupied dwarves will collect up the used bolts and stack them back up nice and neat.

Then what?  Bins full of single arrows aren't that great either.  I've tried selling them off to caravans, just to get rid of them, but being able to re-stack them would be better.

Does melting work? It seems like you wouldn't get a whole bar from each arrow.

Shooting practice? Or do broken masterpiece arrows bother dwarves?

they're fine with masterpiece's being used in the ranges, it's just destroying them in a manner that isn't 'intended' for them that annoys your crafter of choice.

i was worried about this when my legendary bone crafter started churning out arrows of such a nature.

Edit: Also, they won't use metal arrows for practice on the ranges.
