Socks inspire the same sort of emotions in dwarfs that Helen of Troy inspired in the Achaean Greeks. Although it is said that Helen's face launched a thousand ships, socks have surely launched a million ultimately-fatal Store Owned Item tasks.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

"My kobolds just embarked, and have no wealth to speak of. I won't have invaders for a long while. Oh hey, it's Spring.  That's nice."

"A siege?  Oh, there's only six of them.  We can do this."

(From the previous version)  "Skeletal yaks?  No problem.  The war dogs will handle them."

Half Terrifying and half Wilderness?  No problem, I'll just keep the butchery and refuse pile under the soil Wilderness part and use that nice rock area in the Terrifying part for bedrooms and workshops.  Oops, Urist McMoody just failed to make his artifact ...

This was probably already posted but:
"I don't need to use a support and a level for my controlled cavein, it'll be TOTALLY SAFE as long as the guy removing the last connected floor tile isn't actually standing on that tile or the part being collapsed"    *a few seconds later cavein dust knocked him off the scaffolding to fall 10 levels, 4 other haulers on lower levels of the structure were blown off also, my Expedition leader/architect decided at this time to stroll through the drop zone and took an "oak log" to the face. everybody else died later to a kobold or something lame like that.
Also there was this recent one "Sure i've lost 6/7 dwarves to the undead and my Doctor is the last guy left hiding in a nice warm bunker with food and random parts of the wagon, he has a pick and seeds, a few barrels and is otherwise ok, BUT my anvil is outside and i might want to dig down to that cassiterite i know is down there, theres no zombies immediately outside and the anvil is only 10 spaces away, he'll be fine"

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.
