In what way, could a giant elk bird POSSIBLY be a threat?

Oh yah, I don't get an instant notification of dwarves dying to my malfunctioning doomsday devices anymore.

I'm sure I turned off the entryway spike traps before telling everyone to loot the caravan killed by the siege.

"Making a fort inside a volcano must not be so hard. I've got a handy river on the same map to make obsidian! This is a good start..."

"Oh, now I've reclaimed that fort, I see there's the ghost of a soldier right at the entrance. It's murderous, and I can't seem to be able to engrave his name. Oh well, how bad can a "murderous ghost" be anyway?"

I don't mean to alarm you, but it appears that your Dwarves are all in fact elephants.

"I wonder what happens if I embark with Play Now on a terrifying map."

Followed shortly by

"My seven untrained dwarves can handle 10 zombie thrips men, easy."

Of course, my only point in starting that fort was to die horribly. but still... :P

The pain in my left arm and chest isn't so bad, I'll look up those symptoms on webmd after this construction is finished.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

I think my militia dwarves last words, on multiple occasions, were probably  "LEEEERRROY JENKINS!!!!"

As for more specific cases, my famous last words:
"It's just one semi-conscious goblin thief crawling around my fortress.  Activate the militia."

The assumed last words of my dwarves:
In the above case:
"Weapons?  Ammo?  Armour?  We don't need no stinkin' weapons, ammo or armour".

In previous cases of militia activation:
"Goblin attack? I don't have all my equipment on me.  I'd better go grab that boot that's lying about above ground".

Engraved on the floor is a well-designed image of a kobold and a carp.  The kobold is making a plaintive gesture.  The carp is laughing.

"Embarking two tiles from a necromancer tower? This'll be fun!"

As a hilarious anecdote, stealthed necromancers started raising all the butchered junk from creatures. This resulted in a superpowered tuft of zombified yak hair shattering my militia's bones by pushing them, and all their attacks would pass right through.

Elves are no match for Dwarven might.
