All right, guys! Updates in the manner to which you have become accustomed, coming soon. I just need to get a question answered, because I know some people are very specific about this kind of thing:

Would you object to my usage of a single dfhack plugin? I'm talking about vdig, to automatically follow veins and clusters of rock, ore, and gems. If Brewster (as the starter of this game) or most of all you fine fellows are against it, I won't. Let's just say I'm not just thinking convenience, but also planned aesthetics.

Oh well. May as well play until I get an answer.

1st Granite, Year of Our Spine of Oil 503

It's shameful how few drinks we have in this place, given that the fortress was started by a brewmaster. Anyway, I'm sure he's working overtime to...

Huh. Well, where is he? What's he doing that's so dang-blasted...

Seriously? Who told him to do anything other than brewing? That's a full-time job that requires a dwarf's undivided attentio...

DAMMIT. No. You won't be a one-dwarf show. Not on my watch.

Let it be known henceforth that the self-styled Brewmaster is heretofore assigned only to brewing.

Now then, on to further business... In the absence of further threat to the fortress, and in celebration of our freedom from the undead menace, let it be known that there shall be a new Dining Hall constructed! In the gleaming marble deep below the fortress, we shall construct a mead-hall of shining white walls, with statues, memorials, and the biggest damn booze stockpile this side of the mountains. Our current dining hall deep in the caverns is not only paltry, but hard to get to and potentially dangerous due to its access to the caverns.

Make it so!

Some skulking filth attempts to disrupt the smooth running of our fortress...

but is swiftly dealt with.

Note to self: must get proper weapons for militia. While amusing, it is dreadfully inefficient to club kobolds to death with wooden training swords.

I have instructed the mason to start making tables and chairs for the new dining complex, work upon which proceeds apace. Soon it will be time to put these so-called "Strat's Slaves" to the test, smoothing the noblest of stones (and a bit of microcline. Damn!)

End of Granite

Done! Thanks for joining up.

Never used it before, does it display the whole map, so nothing is dark and in shadows anymore? I'm a vanilla DF player myself.

Nah. All vdig does is designate the whole vein for digging when only a bit of it is exposed. Very useful for mining out large areas of ore without micromanagement, and also gives you a nice naturalistic feel. I wouldn't use reveal on a succession fortress.

30th Granite, The Wee Hours

I dreamed a dream.

I dreamed that without metal to work, without coal to flame, the forges were cold. I dreamed that we were conquered by our enemies, our wooden training swords snapped in two and our brave militia slaughtered to a dwarf and left to rot, fodder for the undead hordes.

I dreamed that I was also struck down, and saw the spirits of my fellow dwarves rising to their eternal rest. I dreamed that rather than rising, I fell. Through rock, through cave, through tower-cap and forgotten beast, I fell through the depths, passing silently through gabbro and granite, until finally coming to rest in a place that was warm, red, and bright. And within this bright red heat, I caught a glimpse of something.

A glimpse of blue. Of cyan, the color that alternately makes dwarves shudder in revulsion and quiver with joy.

I know what I must do. Etur has shown me my path. As Metalsmith-In-Chief, I must secure for us the ultimate metal, and the means to smith it.

(OOC:Something to tide you guys over until I'm done with my last exam tomorrow.)

Ah, then that's not a problem as long as the next player can use vanilla.

I'm enjoying your story so far! :)

Yup! I don't think liason came while I was under undead seige though... so I didn't get to ask for wardogs.... bummer. What's the dog count at?

In the abortive year, the mandate was delivered via crow if memory serves.

Hey, sorry. Exam on Friday left me feeling dead inside. I'll have something for you fine people by tomorrow.

Edit: I'm sorry, guys. I really don't want to be yet another turn-skipper, but it turns out that it's hard enough to juggle exams, social life, and sleep without throwing DF into the mix. My exams will be done after this week, so if you'd like, please put me at the end of the turn list?

I love that first mandate of the messed up dwarven dirtscrapers.

I'd love to get on the list to take a turn. Could you sign me up?  I hope this fortress makes it...

I think ImBocaire will be able to work on this Fortress shortly by the sound of his post.
