Fear grips you for a moment before you let out a giggle. "It probably isn't human." you say aloud. Alex slips the tooth into his pocket and continues to weed. "Hell maybe I'll find something neat. The soil isn't very acidic near as I can tell, it just has no nutrients in it after all, and if there was a whole deer skeleton down here it would probably be preserved."

Alex marks the spot to dig, later, when he finishes weeding.

Alex continued to weed, but only half heartedly. He was pretty excited to dig out his spot he set aside and wasn't very taken to weeding in the first place.

About lunch time Alex wandered on into the house, made lunch, and ate it on his porch. Looking at his headway he felt disappointed. The yard was very large and the headway he had made looked absolutely meager in comparison.

A van drove by, noisily, and down the main road and disappeared with a turn. "Well atleast SOMEONE lives here besides me."

Alex discouraged at weeding decided to give digging a try.

*hours pass*

The sun now veering down in the low end sky watches Alex.

"God damnit!" Alex yelled throwing the shovel down in frustration. He had found nothing and had only succeeded in becoming exhausted, putting a large pit in his yard, and getting filthy.

Alex stuffed the weeds he had pulled earlier into trash bags and watched as the van returned and left from the same road it came from.

Alex grabbed his shovel and went inside. He didn't have school tommorow and hadn't decided how to spend the day.

Alex looked at his watch. 18:39. "It's not to late. Let's make some friends Alex" he thinks sarcastically, walking out the door.

The post office wasn't far off and the walk only took minutes. It looked... Beaten, from a distance atleast. The whole place was splintering wood and peeling white paint that sagged on one side. The windows were caked with so much dirt that you might as well try looking through a wall. As Alex neared he saw a sign on the door.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

* Writen on the bottom of the sign in blue marker and squiggly handwriting.

Alex cupped his hands and peered into the post office. It was difficult to see but it looked like a bomb had gone off in there. Mail was scattered about behind the counter, some envalopes yellowed with age, others crisp and new. Chairs were arranged around a table that sat directly in the middle of the main room. Empty bottles sat on the table and spotty light filtered through them, leaving green and blurred shadows on the far wall. A single glass joined the cluster of bottles.

"Huh." Alex grunts pulling away from the window "Weird place."

By the way, if we ever come close to dying, have the protagonist say Hastur thrice in a roll; that will show our opponent something.

(I see what you did there...)

Alex caught a glimmer as he walked while looking at the ground. It was the light reflecting off of his ring. His aunts ring. He didn't really know her but apparently she knew him. She left him some money in her will as well as this ring. Not a ton, she was by no means rich, but wanted him to have her things. When she left him a letter, how did it go?

Dear Alexander,

I know you didn't know me. I only saw you when you were young. But I've been trying to learn about you. Your parents are a lost cause. The will not do anything for this family save for make our names something to be scorned. I know you have promise, however. My sister let it slip while yelling at me that you had run away. When I asked her where too she said to a college. I apologize that I won't be able to see who you've become or had seen you grow up but you can honor me by finishing college and becoming somebody great. I leave you all of money and my ring. Pawn it if you like. A marrage gone sour is nothing to remember.

                            Sincerely,
                                               Your aunt, Izabella Kasprzak

Alex plodded along, finding his way to his home as the sun hit the trees.

Genre convention usually means that the ring is either related to the horror is instrumental in bringing down the horror.

Head to post office with tooth thing.

Oh.  This place is starting to remind me of Silent Hill or something.  Check out any nearby buildings or whatever, for signs of human life.

No, it is far too late and the horror seems to be community centered rather than residence centered; our house may well be our safest bet for the night.

Note: the game's title tempts me to get a crowbar and remove the house's flooring.

Alex went home. He wanted to knock on a few doors and have alook around but it was getting dark and Alex was beat. He arrived home an stomped up the stairs and whipped up a bath for himself. After he was clean he just about fell into bed. It didn't matter if there was creaking or cracking or chains a rattlin' because Alex wouldn't have heard them. It turns out digging all day is a good way to make yourself so tired that you don't care about anything.

Alex woke up at 7:19. He had slept well, or atleast better than night before last. Alex sat up and immediatelly fell back down again. "Ow! My back." Alex's back ached something feirce from picking weeds all day. He rolled out of bed and got some Advil out of the medicine cabinet. He took some and layed on his bed until he felt he could stand upright again.

Alex made himself breakfast while trying to stretch out his back.

Alex needed to decide what to do with his day but did not want to weed anymore. He would grit his teeth and do it if there was nothing at all to do though.

Alex looked at the bed. There didn't seem to be anything strange about it. Further inspection yielded nothing strange except that the tag had been ripped off. "The mattress seems fine." Alex thought as he tried to straighten his sore and stiff back.

Alex dug his pant's out of his laundry hamper. He dug through the pockets multiple times and eventually found the tooth. It didn't seem very different, but how much could a tooth change in one day anyway. Alex pocketed the tooth.

Alex had slept  well bat that didn't mean that he didn't miss something. Despite his feeling that he was being paranoid, Alex made rounds in the house, checking the place for any sign of breaking and entering, footprints, or anything out of place. The place looked clean, doors locked and all, but, Alex admitted to himself, he hadn't memorized the location of the objects in his house. The short stroll and look about had stretched his back out a bit though.

Go around the house and count up how many rooms it has and what sort of rooms they are. Also, because this is a horror game,

>Go up the stairs.
