I absolutely hate generic craft artifacts. I know that there's mods to make display cases of them, but I really don't feel like doing that.

I just they're stupid! Crowns, Earrings, Amulets, all of them generally pointless...they sit in some stockpile somewhere and do nothing.

My opinion might changes if Toady ever adds magic to artifacts, since that would make even the lowliest of oak rings decorated with spikes of oak interesting.

I love weapons and armor of any kind, especially the crazy powerful lead-hammers and such, but even the tin and gold weapons that do almost nothing are still awesome, since they give legendary weaponsmiths, and infinite masterwork weapons is a gift that keeps on giving.

Though I appreciate the ability to build grate, floodgate, and quern furniture, I'm still not crazy about those either.

Also, furniture made entire of gems is awesome. I've only seen like one of those in my forts.

Give me a door or a hatch cover any day.  I love unbreakable building destroyer bait.  Floodgates and grates seem to work too.  (Not statues though.)

Anything buildable is good in my book, though I like weapons and armor too.

Not mine but if your going to discuss legendary artifacts then this must be mentioned.

My favourite artifact was a simple bismuth bronze mace. Its description was short and it was simply a bismuth bronze mace that menaced with spikes of bismuth bronze.

It was simple and it killed things well.

My least favourite artifact is every chert crown.

Imagine you're driving a car. Push the gas pedal to the floor. Close your eyes. Remain this way for ten minutes while turning the wheel at whim. This is Dwarf Fortress.
I don't mean to alarm you, but it appears that your Dwarves are all in fact elephants.

Best: Platinum warhammer named something nonsensical.
it had images in elf bone, goblin bone, human bone, and dragon bone on it. all the images were of dwarves killing shit. by the time the fort crumbled it had been used by 5 dwarfs to kill over 400 enemies.

worst: a shale mug, description: this is a shale mug, on this item is a engraving of itself in shale... not verbatim but close enough... although i would love to have that as a coffee mug...
INSANITY TO ALL WHO LOOK UPON MY DROSTE MUG! (if that doesn't make sense, Google droste effect.

Best so far (Thats not a weapon) Is a Yellow Zircon Flute. Just think! A group of dwarfs are sitting around a campfire when suddenly one pulls out a gem Flute and starts telling a story with it.

That's an odd use for a flute, but I suppose music hasn't been implemented yet.

Best: A mermaid bone bed decorated with fire imp bone and fire imp leather.

Worst: Any bone artifact from when those were glitched. Barring that, Generic Wooden Scepter/Toy since those are useless even in Adventure Mode and have little value.

my Best artifact is a Silver Battle Axe that menaces with spikes of silver.

my worst artifact(s) are tied between the first two I ever got. Both of them were wooden scepters, though admittedly I hate the second one a little more, only because it had a picture of the first one on it.

They were made of three different kinds of wood each and had many, many decorations. Spikes, rings, pictures, the works. They were still utterly, utterly useless.

I would have cast them into the volcano if I had known how to do that back then.

One of my dwarves in a prev version made a lead artifact hammer, I equipped it on my militia commander along with dwarf bone armor and I think some helm artifact.

Afterwards, he dodged into magma while fighting a forgotten beast. *sigh*

When I was testing something with a candy generator, I once ended up with an candy scourge that was planepacked with literally about 50k pieces o' blue...

I switched to Adventure Mode to go and play with it, but something went sour in the process and my save got corrupted. ><

The absolute best to this day was a golden pick on an embark where the only metals so far were gold and silver. Not only was it worth over 150k UristBucks, way to make a useful item out of gold! \o/

The worst was a kapok mug worth ~3k.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.
