Lack of bachelors
« on: March 07, 2012, 10:30:36 am »

I'm keen to start on my military, but all my migrants from the three waves seem to be married.  Is this the new trend?  Should I give up and draft husbands and risk small armies of miserable wives and children when a few stout dwarfs fall in battle?

At the rate they're probably breeding, if you set your children to grow up at age three you can have yourself a massive army in no time.

Nah, they'll be fine. Just give the widows good food, decent rooms and eating tables.

Draft the wives too. If they both die no problem, except kids going berzerk. Which, is more awesome than a problem, to be honest.

People keep saying that doing an Evil embark is like experiencing a Zombie Apocalypse but that's not accurate. In a zombie apocalypse the zombies overwhelm the inhabitants corrupting the land and trapping a band of survivors. In DF a group of people with a perfectly fine place to live, look at a corrupted hellhole overrun by the legions of the undead boot them out and say "No, we live here now."

Thanks guys.  I guess these days all the dwarfs are in the family way ;)

I can't bring myself to have battle babes with babies, but the men folk, and the rare single female is ready for recruitment!

Yeah, used to be like you.  "Don't draft the mothers" and "Make sure that mood gets fulfilled!" and "He's tantruming, better make him happier and not order him killed" or "Leave the gate open!  The woodcutter is still running away from the ambush!"

Then I started throwing children to their deaths in an ornate glass display case in the middle of the dining hall.  My dwarves attained "has become used to tragedy" and I along with them.

* krenshala points at the username *  She ... is a good dwarf, but those things would be bad in our current meatspace civilization.  Thank Armok our dorfs don't live in our world.  We have enough troubles of our own with them here diggin' fer bluemetal. :D

[edit] almost forgot ... draft them anyway, as long as you set the children to an internal burrow you shouldn't have too many issues with active duty parents.  And who knows, you may end up with Urist McOrphan, that joins the military to get revenge on the whatever that slaughtered his or her parents. ;)

Doesn't quite have the ring of heroics to it...

It's cool.  We dwarves all the same beard, gender is irrelevant compared to the science we set upon.  Except Randy Gnoman.  Clearly he has not earned his beard yet.  That's alright though.  We've all been smooth at some point, there's no shame in it.  It's just, well, better get to work on it...

I almost made an arrow to the knee joke, actually, what with the "I used to be like you" part...

But I didn't...

Because I took an arrow to the knee...

(Amazingly, I don't even own Skyrim!)

Now you really are a bad person.

I feel no guilt when letting my inner beast eat those obnoxious bastards.

It's very amusing to read this while looking at your big-eared avatar.
You are indeed a worthy daughter of Armok.
