Do wild animals attack goblins?
« on: March 07, 2012, 08:48:13 am »

I tried really hard to find something answering my question in the forums already, but I couldn't. I'm really sorry if it has been answered before.

If I captured a bunch of naturally hostile wild animals like tigers or something, filled a pit with them, and dropped invaders in, would the animals attack the goblin invaders? Or do they have to be trained?

Also, I'd hate to unleash an army of wild tigers just to have them join the goblins in their siege XD.

Sadly, almost all wild animals are cowards and won't fight if they can run away. The exception is animals like badgers with the [PRONE_TO_RAGE:1] tag. If you're comfortable with modding the raws then adding this tag to animals that you would expect to maul stuff can be very fun. It also presents a new solution to the age old civilian cowards problem. If you give this tag to dwarfs then they will occasionally rage on hostiles/wildlife. Good times.

Another option is to pit goblins + animals of your choice into a 1x1 room. Since they can't path away, the animals will fight. Nothing like dropping that annoying elf trader into a pit with 50 cats. Of course, trained war animals will attack hostiles on sight.

or maybe Valve goes out of business because they invested too heavily in something which then fails - like, say, human civilization.
Alternatively, initiate strife to refuse additional baked goods, and then abscond.

Any cornered animals will attack. If you build the cages, set them to levers and release the tigers when the goblins are right next to them - expect carnage :P
