Run. Run for your lives, though running in circles is a possibility.

You sprint in the opposite direction, right towards the stairs.
He is close behind, barely out of range. He swings, but you're barely out of range and he tears through a stone coffin quite easily.

((Great, was thinking the duel would become an honourable fight.

Guess I was wrong.))

"Why are we fighting in a catacomb again? Won't anyone anger your ancestors if their coffins get broken?"

Goad him into going deeper into anger, while you stay calm and collective - the warrior's prowess against the storm, unyielding but flexible enough to stay alive.

Oh, and dodge.

You taunt him to come further.
He does, while coughing.
More dodging up the staircase until you end up at a flat platform. You might get cornered.

About a map, here's a rough ASCII one

+ - floor
> - down stair
< - up stair
h - chair
8 - barrel
/ - entrance/doorway
space - empty space or wall
. - also wall

        first floor
            ++<......
        +++++++++
     +++++++++++
  +++g+++88888+++
 ++g++++888888+++
/++g++++888888+++
 ++g++++888888+++
    +g+++++8888+++
     +++++++++++
          +++++++
            +++++

few floors up...

             .....>+++
                  ++++
                  ++++
                  ++++

                lchan l
                l de_ l
                l lier_l

also a platform above the doorway as well

If that helps a little bit, that's great.

Use momentum as a weapon! Leap from thine platform and Smite the Dwarf with your blade!

Prepare recovery accordingly. Order the other Goblins to examine those barrels.

"Check the barrels!" you shout, lunging down the stairs at the dwarf, the sword is now lodged in his arm. He jumps back, with the sword in his arm, coughing violently. He does not let up and dashes towards you. You are knocked back, a bad cut in your leg, pushed to the edge of the platform, near the center of the room, if you were to fall you would end up in the pile of barrels. The chandelier is pretty close...

Ignore the cut in your leg, for you know that one of your trained warriors also knows the medical arts.

Jump onto the chandelier and ride it down below!

Or...jump into the barrel pile unless your soldiers say otherwise.

The dorf is dead, once we're in safety claim his armor / weapons for yourself. have a smith melt them down / reforge them to gobbo size!

You hop onto the chandelier, scrambling up in an attempt to survive, you turn your head, the dwarf has blood dribbling down his chin, he rears his weapon arm back, and launches his halberd, spinning straight towards you. (the next reaction has to take place in roughly 1 half of a second.)

Just a note, there will be some fortresses where it is very possible to die, for this book has collections of parts written by different goblins. Not here, this is more of an introduction fortress, but I'm just putting it out there that it will not be an invincible cakewalk.

Dive! Duck! Dash! Divert! some other evasive action that starts in D!
Basicaly avoid the halberd if at all possible.
