I was about to say you can make similar stuff without being a ripoff.

But when he said "forgotten beasts", I KNEW it was a ripoff.

Really?  I seem to recall that being mentioned several times in Tolkien.  First Durin et al dug up a balrog (An enormous humanoid made of shadows and fire.  It has goatlike horns and shadowy wings. Beware its deadly scourge!), and then when Gandalf fell down the pit and fought the balrog, it mentions him encountering bizarre creatures of the underworld, long since forgotten.  It may well be older than Tolkien, but that's what I remember it from.   This is a classic dwarf trope.

That means Dwarf Fortress must be ripoff!

Seriously, even Tolkien took a lot from existing folklore.

And forgotten beasts living under the ground is one of the oldest human myths.

Age doesn't have anything to do with with fanboy attitude. Older people just show their fanboy attitude in a more calm and reasonable manner.

It seems somewhat viable a game. It almost looks something like Dungeon Keeper should have been. The biggest downside is playing dwarves, which is a big downside in Dwarf Fortress as well.

I will wait for a Dungeon Keeper mod. At least it might be patched by then. And the price will probably go down. I might pay up to 20€ for it. Hopefully they include decent modding tools.

And Paradox is good. It does not matter if they release games even more buggy than some other publishers. At least, Paradox has yet to piss me off like EA, Activision and Ubisoft.

So many people following the leader...Maybe if someone went to the official forums for these games and/or their companies and pointed out their suspicious similarities to DF, we'd see what everyone else thinks.

"Discover caverns?" "Forgotten Monsters?" They're not even trying. It would be nice if they bothered to TRY to make their game look different! Although, I do find the number of dislikes and comments to the effect of "This is a rip-off of DF and doesn't even recognise it" amusing...Hope it brings some people to find out wat the heck Dwarf Fortress is.

So I saw this thing that is a complete rip off of DF!


Its about dwarves who embark on a mountain and dig into it.
They build a huge mountain fortress, and all kinds of valuable crafts, weapons, and armor of extremely high quality.
Because of their riches they need to defend their fortress from many attackers, so its very heavily defended.
They trade with the local human and sometimes elven civilizations, though the elves are aloof and annoying.
They're regularly threatened by goblins, but run into problems when digging deep and greedily into the caverns far beneath the surface for more valuable gems and metal.
Everyone, goblins ransack the place once the fun from the deep shatters their defenses.
A reclaim attempt is made on the fortress, but it goes poorly, fortress needs to be abandoned again.

Oh dear gods the voice! I really loved the Dungeon Keeper voice but I hope the voice in the trailer isn't used so much.

I for one am glad for more Dungeon Keeper / Evil Genius style games. The market is sadly lacking in them. I am saddened by the reaction this kind of game garners around here.

Just a few here were calling Game of Dwarves a ripoff. Most of the posters here were scolding those who did.
