Dwarven magma station?
« on: March 06, 2012, 03:20:12 pm »

Generate a world that has extremely deep magma pits and very little land. Mod a reaction to create water from certain minerals at a still. Mod in a craftable clothing that is extremely heat resistant and covers the entire body. Also mod in civilizations that live underneath lava and are magma-proof.

Create an underlava settlement, have all of your outside workers wear the magma suits and be trained to swim really well, and try to survive.

Is this possible?

Well the clothes would survive, the Dwarf on the other hand...

Remove the fat first, then you'll do fine.

I will attempt this.

maybe. I'm still a newb when it comes to modding, and I'm bad with the advanced world gen stuff.

You'd better check that again - in 0.34 even momentary contact with magma will set you on fire, while back in 0.31 you had to be immersed for a while before this would happen (and not bleed to death first - this was easy to do with Trolls and other large creatures).

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Would covering a dwarf 100% in several layers of modded heat-resistant clothing protect them?

And dwarfs or any other race you are playing with won't path trough +3/7 water/magma. And they won't perform any kind of job in the liquid either.

yep. So even if you managed to do all of the above, the dwarfs would never willingly have anything to do with magma over 3/7.

Actually, magma over 0/7 will make terrain impassible.  Water can be up to 3/7 deep and still be passable, but any magma at all will block a tile.

What about a 1x1 magma-(water)fall on top of a 3x3 central staircase? I am not sure though, wether magma-mist actually works properly in this verison or not.

Magma mist has never been created by falling magma - the only thing that can create it is a cave-in falling through magma.

That explains what happened to my miner!...Except the part where his clothes didn't burn.

Someone in .34.2 managed to get a Dwarf swimming around in magma with no damage done. So the bug may still persist
