Abandon all hope, this is Dwarf Fortress
« on: March 05, 2012, 05:39:37 pm »

Just started playing the recent release cycle, made a new world and started with an adventurer. I was planning on running a few human adventurers before I got into fortress mode again.

Then I saw it.

There is a large range in the Southwest of the world, named the Praised Mountain for its greatest peak. Most of the range is scorchingly hot year-round.
In that range lie the Blanketed Lakes. A peninsula of lower land extends out into the water, with hills on the far end.

Looks like you found your own nice little batch of hell on earth.

+1 community fort.

Silent Hill, Everseeing Harvester...  This is just ripe for terror.  Any community fort done here must be in the style of Event Horizon.

When the time comes, I'll make sure to put the fort in the Community Games section. I'd rather not do a year-by-year community fort, but I have an even better idea. When it eventually collapses in a screaming inferno, I'll hand the save off to someone else. After all, why should horrible death by demonic ocelot stop the place from being reclaimed? That person will control the fort until it collapses in on itself again, repeat until the bowels of hell have been conquered or the ocelots find a way to spread to the forums.

Not sure when that will start, though. I've somehow managed to kill off a couple vampires and a FB in adventure mode without lasting injury. When the time comes, I'll link to that thread here.
EDIT: Strike that, just ran into a well-armed band of goblins, and I'm having a spot of trouble with the halberd sticking out of my chest. I'll post the link once I've written things up properly.

Oh god, the dwarf civ that borders the Silent Hill (which I naturally chose) has a history of major vampire and werecreature problems, as well as a particularly active Tower overflowing with dwarven necromancers and their servants, if legends mode is to be trusted. I really, really hope I'm far enough away from that Tower.

Thread is at http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=103751.0. I've posted a basic OOC intro, but I need a decent meal before I can finish the pre-embark story. If you want to see the thread before it descends into madness and despair and maybe (oharmoknopleaseletthisbeidlespeculation) armies of skeletal wildcats, look now, because it's not going to last.

Does it give live to that which has fallen? What powers does the weather bring? Hopefully it will be necrotic rain (interpret as you want :P) and maximum zombie infestation!

Build a town-looking fort, abandon, then send an average peasant adventurer there.  Name him what you will, have him survive the horrors that is...

SILENT HILL.
