Let's Play Caves of Qud

So yeah, Caves of Qud is a post-apocalyptic rogue-like that has a interesting setting and cool mechanics.

Also there's a Bay12 thread for it here.

Anyways, on to making the character.
Name?
Gender?

And now for something that actually matters, mutated or not?
True Humans have better gear and stats and Mutants have mutations(as their name suggests) and are in general way more awesome.

Okay, so now we're going to want to set up the attributes

Strength affects melee damage, knockback resistance & carry weight.
Agility affects accuracy & dodge chance.
Toughness affects amount of HP, HP regeneration & ability to resist poisons and diseases.
Intelligence affects amount of skill points given & ability to identify artifacts.
Willpower affects mental mutation cooldown rate, HP regeneration & ability to resist mental attacks.
Ego affects power of mental mutations & prices at shops.

Keep in mind that a score of 16 points is average for attributes & that scores past 18 require 2 points to increase.
Feel free to ask questions if that was at all unclear.

How about both Toughness & Intelligence at 19, the rest at 16?
Also, I forgot to mention that you can get attribute points from leveling up later on.

Really? I almost always play as a mutant, I'll have to try playing a true human more.
If no one has any objections we'll go with those stats.

Alright, we're just about done.
It's time to pick our mutations if you've got any questions about the mutations go ahead and ask I'm just going to list off the mutations and their point cost due to my massive laziness. You have 12 points to begin with to spend on the mutations, you can also choose one disorder to get a few more points.

Spoiler: Morphotypes (click to show/hide)
Chimera & Esper just restrict you to physical & mental mutations.
Unstable Genome on the other hand is Fun in that it will only manifest with a 33% chance after you gain a level.

Can't really describe all of them but most tend to be passive abilities.
Honestly, I haven't used physical mutations too much but they seem pretty fun.

These are mostly abilities you activate. Not much to say beyond the fact these are generally based around ranged but some are good for melee characters.

I'm sorry for not actually giving all that good of an overview for the mutations, but like I said ask about it or check it out in the game. I'll be to bed in a bit, so I'll try to explain more about the classes in the morning.

I havent ever gotten a successful esper. Always get mauled by a bear. Once it was a chaingun and I believe sowers have killed a lot. Only do good with physical mutants. Its interesting how some people play true human, some play esper and some play physical mutant and they are all happy with theirs, its a sign of a good game I would say.

I could be mean and vote for 5 Unstable Genome, Hemophilia, Slime Glands and Kindle, but I think bleeding to death before the first mutation manifests wouldnt be very entertaining, so Im gonna vote for an Esper.

Not really familiar with the mutations, but I say something like Light Manipulation, Force Wall, Unstable Genome, but it leaves 2 points and a defect unused. Maybe get Blinking Tic or Evil Twin and take a 5 pointer?

I don't know the mutations too well, but maybe you should get the one that slows time for enemies?
Time Dilation?  or Space-Time Vortex?  That way you can get away safely when you need to (sometimes sprinting just isn't enough)
also Pyrokinesis sounds cool, but I've never used it so idk.

Hey, going with all Unstable Genome can be fun. Near suicidal but fun.

I don't know the mutations too well, but maybe you should get the one that slows time for enemies?

Yep, Time Dilation slows down enemies. Space-Time Vortex creates a vortex that can teleport enemies(or you) anywhere in Qud.

How about Force Wall, Light Manipulation, Pyrokinesis, Time Dilation for mutations & Blinking Tic for a defect?
