Though, the book I got from Arathos says you buy them first, then apply the bonuses. This is why the "Species" section comes after the "Attributes" one. Which also makes sense, since biologically speaking a Kel Dor's 14 DEX would be as hard to achieve as a human's 12, since they higher average DEX potential.

B-b-but... the points cost more at higher levels, to prevent minmaxing! If you buy points and then get a static bonus, then the bonus will be worth more depending on how many points you already had. If my character buys two strength points for a total of 10, then he gets two extra points from the bonus. But if he buys six strength points for a total of 14, he gets four extra points from it!

But if that's what it says, then that's what it is.

Kind off. But then again, if it was to be fair, the costs would just move up (or down) two steps. So 10th wouldn't cost anything, and 18 would cost 10, and 20 would cost 16. Likewise, for CON, getting it to 8 should cost two, 14 would cost 10 and 16 would cost 16. This way they also can't get a CON score higher than 16, symbolising their lower-than-human-standard frailty.

scriver's response though did include their rationale, however flawed, for the rules being as written.  The assumption is that most players won't bother with the mathematics needed to divine the greatest possible combination of bonuses to be earned from twisting the point-buy system and racial choice.

I operate under the premise that even if you spend that much time trying to sweat how to get a little more from a +2 modifier, it isn't drastic enough to be unbalancing and therefore I don't care.

I think you're one hour off. Game starts at 9am US Central time, so when this says 9am, which should be 11 hours from now.

Do we have characters for Taricus and Yoink yet?

Any other outstanding issues in need of resolution?

Oh yeah, my character sheet-- I did it through the Pathguy generator, so I'll see about putting it all into a nice, neat Mythweavers sheet in a bit. Game starts at 1AM my time by the way, heh. :P I slept in this morning, till about... 1PM, and combined with plenty of coffee I should be good.

We have sheets for Taricus and Scriver; Yoink made one in-session last time, I just need a copy for record's sake.

As an extra treat, we'll be joined by my brother for the next few sessions.  He's enlisted in the US Army, so he'll be on hiatus after leaving for boot camp, then depending on how things go from there either he'll return or his character will become a recurring NPC.

EDIT: T-minus ~6 hours till game time as of this post.

I've just finished buying equipment. So I'm pretty done with mine. Just a bit unsure if I'm spreading my skills too thin, having never played a d20 game before, but I guess we'll see once we get started. I still don't have a name, though, but Vera Scriv works as an alias for now. I mean, she is a scoundrel.

Two questions though: 1, Do we start with maximum starting Vitality, or should I roll it?
2, Do "Character Traits"/"Flaws" do anything mechanics-wise, and where can I read about them if they do?

Now I'm just gonna go look at your sheet's and see how indepth you got got with the background and personality descriptions.

@Scriver: You could roll it, or take average.

As for traits, those are usually for character flavor.
Flaws likewise, but if the GM agrees, you can usually take a bonus feat for having them.

...Can I take the "Mary Sue" trait? No? Aaaw. Thanks for the answers, anyway.

Also, nice that your brother will be joining, Arathos. I assume it is your younger brother? Is he aware of the "little brothers are only allowed to play ewoks" rule?

Max vitality at first level.

I believe he has the "We're both in our 20s and no longer care about sibling rivalries" feat that counters this  ;)
