Let me be the first to say: What are you talking about? An article or something would be enlightening.

It IS on the news, you know. Putin won in a landslide, going on to his 3rd term. (What is the deal with Russian term limits anyways? You can only be elected twice unless you decide to run a third time?)

People are saying the voter fraud is blatantly obvious.

You can only be voted two consecutive times as president before you have to take a break.

I have the feeling that I am the only one who will be supporting Putin in this thread.
Anyways, I'm glad he's in power, reshaping Russia and all that.
Perhaps not entirely democratic, but democracy sucks at getting anything done quickly, especially when it comes to serious business.
Athenians usually dumped their democratic system in favour of a dictator when things got bad.

Wasn't Putin the most popular guy anyways?
The last Russian elections (duma) weren't very honest either but even it would have been Putin would have had a majority (according to some site linked here in b12 which 'proved' a lot of fraud).

Yeah, and dictatorship always seems to turn out well 1) in Russia, and 2) in the modern era, right? Right!?!

Getting things done slowly is better than making the leading party richer and more powerful fast imho.

You know mate, when I were in Russia in 2009, I heard something that translates as the following; "It's better to keep one guy in power, because he's already stolen his share, than keep introducing new ones, who'll just keep siphoning". Sure, it's been related to a mayor (already forgot what the office's called over there) but it tells a bit.

Since when is having a rich government a bad thing?

Depends how much the ruling class is pocketing the public funds.

I don't know much about Russian politics, but I do know Putin's rather popular despite crushing democracy. Benevolent dictator or no, I dunno.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Soo guys, I hear you are new to Russian politics.

The country have never really been governed by anything but dictators, so don't expect it to change. Besides, corruption runs so deep that anyone sitting in power probably steals half the country before being arsed to do anything useful. Soo, in a way, since Putin already (unofficially) owns half of the countries oil, he is probably more interested in bettering the country than stealing from it.
Oh, and don't get me wrong, I am not saying that dictatorship is good, but the fact that leadership in Russia changes without a few thousand people dying is already a progress. Maybe in a few decades they can even hold a fair election?

But honestly, compared to some of Russia's other great leaders, Putin isn't the worst dictator. I mean, you are even allowed to have your own opinions on politics, as long as you're not being any political threat to Putin. (Why do you think they are still keeping the communist party around?)
He even started to fight some of the corruption that have plagued Russia since always. So they are slowing moving in the right direction I suppose.
