Finding were beasts?
« on: March 05, 2012, 10:50:03 am »

How do you guys actually find werebeasts? I can never find them ever. Also, how strong are they? Surely, a were guinea pig or snake can't be that terrifying... Can they?

Most of the time they'll be a naked peasant or child huddled in a lair. So yes, easy.

But how good are they when they are actually in were form?

I honestly don't know; even without trying to avoid it, I have yet to fight one during a full moon.

Werecritters live in lairs - they're the dark gray "boulder" icons that you trip over on the map when fast-travelling around the towns.  If you have trouble finding some, ask a townsperson about "service" repeatedly until you get several requests to kill werecritters.  That will show you on the "Q" quest menu where the lair is.

The actual lair itself is often hard to find, as it's just a down ramp in the middle of a flat area of terrain, or a one-tile-wide cave in a cliff side.

Inside, you'll find a naked peasant who brags about how many chickens they killed and there will be a bunch of random loot from the nearby towns.

You can't fight an actual werebeast unless it is the full moon.  It looks like the "well" icon when you go on the fast travel screen along the top bar that shows sun position.  (Not to be confused with a sun obscured by clouds.)

Werecreatures seem strong, if only we had a more reliable way of turning

I meant turning as in after you are infected you could choose when to turn, or the game had a more reliable method (such as injury, or enraged makes you turn)

Well, 'every full moon' is pretty reliable. And IIRC there is work in progress on a syndrome that duplicates the effects of were-creaturism but allows you to turn at will.

So of like were-creaturism in skyrim? I don't mind that, but I kind of like the idea of randomness, its just too infrequent right now that Vampires and Husks WAY outclass them. A true contest would be to test some equal fights and see if the were-creature is really stronger than the two (which I doubt)

I've done a bit of testing in the arena with the procedurally generated werebeasts and I can say they are definitely stronger than vampires in their transformed state for the most part. This is simply by virtue of their massive size. Husks, maybe, though husks are basically invincible so I guess it would come down to whether or not the werebeast can sever the lower body.

Vanilla, Vamps and Husks do outclass them though, once a month transformation is terrible (compared to awesome stat boosts or nigh immortality)

I think it would be sweet if it was based on rage/injury. Think, you run up to the bandit leader and de-leg him easy. Suddenly, he's a wereelk and:

The Bandit leader becomes enraged and howls a cry of anger!
                   The bandit leader's leg regrows!
The bandit leader transforms into a wereelk!
The wereelk kicks you in the left lower arm, shattering the bone!

                   You give into the pain.
The Wereelk kicks you in the head, shattering the skull and jamming the brain!
                    You have been struck down.

Maybe not that instantaneous of a killer, but it would definitely allow for some "oh shit!" moments
