How many z-levels do you think it takes to find magma? Or at what z-level did you find it?

Depends on the world and where you embark (volcanoes have it quite close to the surface

), but in general it seems to be in the 50-60 z-level range for me.

e_o That's farther than I thought.. I'm at about 100, maybe, If I'm lucky. I think more 110. I got some time to go :/

My last fort had the bottom magma-layer at z-level 168 the current one has it at 62, both with the same world gen settings. It is quite random.

The luckiest you can get is finding a magma tube, or I suppose embarking on a volcano.
