Author Topic: Barracks: weapon racks and armor stands... how do I get dwarves to use them?  (Read 9305 times)

From the wiki:

Quote
When used in a barracks designated for individual and squad equipment, dwarves will prefer to store their weapons on the racks instead of stockpiles. Doing so in concert with armor stands will allow you to create centralized armories for your military.

But how does that work exactly? Do I need to put one weapon rack + armor stand per squad member into the barracks? And assign them to my dwarves manually? That would be quite a pain... And what does "position" mean on that menu page?

Dwarves prefer to store their gear on their person, by default even when they are off duty. I assume the wiki page must refer to the case where you set your soldiers to NOT wear gear off duty. But I never do that (why would one?) so I've never seen them store anything in weapon/armor racks. Position on the menu page refers to the page with three columns, one for selecting a squad, one for the ten slots in the squad, and the last one listing all dwarves not in the selected squad so you can select them to be in that squad.

Hm ok, I donīt see a reason for them to wear civilian clothes off-duty either. But I guess I could try it out and see what happens, Iīd like to know if one weapon rack /armor stand for the whole squad is enough.

Another question that just arose... I defined a couple of waypoints and a route from them. But I canīt find any option in the menus to let them automatically patrol that route. Is that even possible? The wiki sounds like it is, but doesnīt explain it how.

The only reason I can think of would be so that your militia works faster on their civilian jobs when off duty, since they aren't lugging around their gear.

I have strong suspicions that this is very, very rarely going to benefit anyone though, so I'd highly suggest keeping the gear on them at all times.
