Items get automatically stored in containers when they're stockpiled.

Also, seeds never get stored in bins - they get stored in bags, and those bags get stored in barrels.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Or rock pots.

I wish we could make bins out of rock. Is there an equivalent? When I play in no tree areas, I don't have the word, even when imported, to make bins.

I use up excess metal to make bins. Not weapons grade, like copper or silver, but useless metal like lead.

I think lead is heavy so I try to not create bins out of them since bins are usually moved when traders arrive, but I usually use lead to make the smaller stuff like chains.  I'm surprised lead doesn't have more purpose in the game, but there's actually lots of stuff which can only be sold.  I hope this changes as the game moves forward.

Zinc and nickel are both great candidates for bins, if you don't want to use lead.  I usually just use lead anyways, just because I always have scads of galena, but not so much garnierite or sphalerite, though making lead barrels and toys for export to the elves is always amusing.

Add this to your reaction_other.txt file and then generate a new world and you should be able to make stone bins at the craftsdwarf shop.
Code: [Select]
[REACTION:MAKE_STONE_BIN]
[NAME:make stone bin]
[BUILDING:CRAFTSMAN:B]
[REAGENT:A:1:BOULDER:NO_SUBTYPE:INORGANIC:NONE]
[PRODUCT:100:1:BIN:NO_SUBTYPE:GET_MATERIAL_FROM_REAGENT:A:NONE]
[SKILL:MASONRY]
(At least I think this should work. I threw it together in like 2 min, so there might be a mistake that I just didn't see.)

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Lead is excellent for storing items in a fortress you're designing for an adventurer. Because of their weight, they don't get scattered (much) if you don't turn the fortress into a lair with dfhack.
