I played a few games of 40d yesterday and i gotta say that the gore in some ways seemed better(if more unrealistic) in that version, for example punching enemy in the hand could break several of his fingers (or all of them), slashing to head could cleave off noses, ears, eyes etc.

It seems to me that this is no longer possible, aiming to head usually breaks brain but never other stuff attached to head(eyes, ears, nose) also i have never seen an enemy cloven in two in post-df2010, in 40d this could happen quite often and with a powerful adventurer ( or colossus) you could just punch an enemy so that his torso flew away and legs were left in the ground.

I am aware that you can aim for specific bodyparts(like nose and each finger) but i haven't been able to slash eyes out by just aiming for the head.

While the new system is more intricate with stuff like fat layers and nerves, i miss being able to slash an enemy's hand and seeing him lose all his fingers in purple text, or stabbing a foe into the head an getting rewarded with awesome stuff like piercing both eyes and destroying the nose.

i know that you can aim for all of that stuff individually now so it lets you decide where you get to be gruesome ;)

Yeah, but it's usually impossible chance to hit those areas. The only way you'll really hit them is if they're webbed/unconscious.

Nah, you just need to get close first. Aim for the upper body/upper arms/one impossible hit at the extremeties, and it becomes much easier to hit the second time round.

Additionally, Difficult doesnt mean it wont happen. Ive connected plenty of very 'Difficult' shots.

I've had an opposite kind of thing happen. I've gone for attacks of opportunity (what I call those blue exclamation mark attacks) on small targets and hit the larger part. For example, I did a blue sword slap to the ear and ended up killing the guy cause I cracked his skull open. Weird huh?

I dont know, but choking out a foe and slicing off his head always seemed violent enough to me. especially the child lycanthropes. awesome. the downside is, the head doesn't always come off in one shot.

Meh, being able to select which arm to break before caving in the skull of my disarmed (lol pun) foe seems much more violent than some comedy "you cut them in half" type deal.

You can still cut them in half at if you chop at the lower body I believe, "You hack the bronze colossus in the lower body, and the severed part sails off in an arc!"

you can definitely sever enemies in two, just you need a trap or a very strong adventurer to do it.

Yep, get a nice demigod adventurer with a longsword or some sort of axe, and you can slice off a lower (or upper!) body at times. I'm pretty sure you need an edged weapon for that, though.

There's no replacement for the old "It explodes in gore!" though, sadly.

If you grab your target, the chance is better.  If you throw your target to the ground, they are proned and stunned, that also makes the chance to hit a lot better.

What I like to do is grab ranged opponents by the head and gouge their eyes out, then they can't hit you with their ranged weapons.

Just aim for the lower body if you want to halve something. It happens pretty regularly on smaller creatures.
