So, eager to try out new content, I whipped up an adventurer, shuffled his dwarf butt over to a nearby villager, and was told to kill a big scary wolf.

Sure, no problem. Heck, I even get free food right off the bat!
The problem came afterwards. After turning in that quest, the very next task put forth to me was to kill a vampire. But not any vampire, oh no. a Vampire with one hundred fourteen kills to her name.

I suspect the villagers are trying to use me as a sacrifice to appease the vampire so it won't eat their faces during the night.

Vampires are strong, even without that much skill. Bring a buddy.

And then you'll spend a shitload of time preparing and kill the vampire in one shot.

Pfff, I´ve seen vampires with over 4000 kills.

And they aren´t that strong, unless they are actualy undead badasses, which are quite rare, as I found only one vamoire who proved to be a challange.
And dont recruit meat-shield, they are kill-stealers.

I decided to take a jeweler with me, and realized after getting to the village I had no idea where the vampire was exactly. About 5 house inspections later, the woman with a few dozen human/dwarf/elf tooth/nail/hair accessories was suddenly very obviously a vampire.

I actually got really lucky and my first attack I severed the tendon in her middle spine, forcing her to just sit there and get slowly hacked to pieces by a dwarf and a gem cutter.

The best reward of all though, is she had a elf bone crown on her. I'm never taking it off now.

Vampires tend to be easy to kill, especially when they're in the middle of a crowded room when you call them out.  Provided you don't mind massive civilian casualties, of course.

Time to break out this screenshot again.

This was my first kill, so don't worry about vampires.

This, so much. Most vampires go down to my companions before I even get close enough to hit them.

Vanilla vampires suck pretty badly, to the point where (I shit you not) I killed one by throwing a cockroach at it. I made a mod to make them quite a bit more powerful, and make different types, but if you don't like having one dude kill a room full of people in 4 or 5 turns, it may not be for you.

On topic, Necromancers are hard as hell to kill, well, not the necromancers themselves, but their legions of minions. Zombies get a huge stat boost to strength and toughness, so they tend to one hit you, or just prison shank you in a corner because of their huge numbers.

Older vampires also start cults, so be prepared for a full blown civil war when you acuse one, especially in keeps full of civilians, the only allies you´ll have are soldiers and priests.

The last time I went into a town with a vampire cult there were hundreds of hostile wrestlers spawning everywhere attacking all the priests. I accused the priests of being night creatures and they all suggested that I get my affairs in order for my impending doom. They then gained the vampire title in their name but did not turn hostile, vainly struggling to save themselves from the naked embraces of these wild men.

I liked starting up a conversation with them after this, seeing my character recognize them as vampires, but being very polite. They even appeared to be a little happy to see each other.  I found the relationships to be a little arbitrary and shallow, as the conversations always ended with my adventurer accusing them of being a night creature and the latter shamelessly reiterating his title before going back to break the grip that 13 or so men had on his extremities.

I had a vampire (I think, it went "darkness has descended upon us") who I immediately had the report successes option for.
Apparently even though I got that mission in the village, it was from a distant land and would not save them.
Next adventurer found him on the ground dead.
I was confused.

I approve of this anecdote.

I had killed three night creatures prior to the villages believing me to be their messiah it seems.

Alright, so I killed those three night creatures, big whoop. The villagers then decide I am strong enough to kill a vampire with 4028 kills to it's name...Yeah.

Don't have any screenshots, but I do have the world uploaded if anyone is interested in trying to kill it, I never managed to get a chance to before 5 boogeymen chomped away at my pancreas and killed me.
