I think I'd prefer the mine entrance outside the main walls,  it just seems safer as the entrance on deed would allow people to walk into our base if they happened to get into our mine. I don't know the game well enough to know how easy it is to seal up a breach underground.

I'd hate to build some great walls just to have them undermined.

Here is another option. This time up is North.

This one is a real fortress. Two good solid walls around it (tall stone with palisade gates, no house walls to provide weak points). Then in the center we have a third solid wall right around the token. Two big 24 tile houses to provide work space, beds, and storage. And the paths are nice and straight for easy cart driving.

Could optionally make storage buildings in the animal pen area. Something like so:

Azated thinks the walls are overkill. I kinda like the extra security. What do you guys think?

I think it would be good to plan the layout to at least accomodate double walls,  we don't necessarily need to build both right away.  In the meantime the rings of grass can be used as pasture, or protected farmland.  Building from the center outwards seems better to me.

So after a bit of a discussion ingame, I decided that more walls doesn't really take anything away except spare space.

Here's another version of Conalls plan, but with a slightly bigger storage space. This is the plan for our fortress.

Unless something has changed recently, you can tear down wooden walls in a very short time with a carving knife.

Making wooden buildings on a PVP server is not advised unless you plan on upgrading it almost immediately, in which case you probably shouldn't have built it in the first place.

If you don't have anyonw with 30 mason skill, set one person to building brick walls, improving all forges and ovens, and making bricks until they have 30 skill.

Before making bricks, make 10 grind stones and improve them until you have 10 stonecutting.

Low stone walls are the best skillgain for early masons.

(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

I think that's the reason the buildings are inside the walls and not part of them.

I like the layout, and we can always rebuild using masonry, or something, I guess?

We plan to rebuild them as stone later, but with the amount of walls we have, it's not really necessary.

Well, I find myself wanting premium, but can't currently use Paypal to get it. Anyone willing to trade a Steam game for 2 months of premium for me?

So I accidentally unhitched a cart in the middle of town, and couldn't find any rope anywhere.  There are two horses out of the pen, but inside town if someone with a rope wants to track them down and put them back away.

It would be nice if you could abandon a misclick by dragging off of it.
