Right looking at the maps, I'm assuming Independence is just settled all to hell with no chance of finding any good spot off by ourselves.

Of the two other Freedom servers, deliverance looks to have the most overall land so might have an easier chance of finding somewhere to settle, though exodus might have a better chance of finding a coast.

I'm gonna agree with Vel though, the epic servers should probably be out.

I've played Wurm on and off for awhile. I just got started in Xsyon again but I'm not sure if my group there will last. I'm game. Any server decision yet?

~Few to no players with high stats/good items. May be a good idea for everyone who already plays to simply start a new character to make the entire experience equal for everyone.
Won't having good characters help the settlement?

I guess it would, but few of us would have many good skills anyway. Plus, everyone would have the free starter tools to make use of.
Once we decide on these, we'd need to hash out what kind of area we'd be looking to settle. Centralized with easy access to other villages, or remote, relying only on ourselves? Do we want a heavily forested area or clear plains? Mountains or Oceans?
I vote for heavily forested remote area with ocean.

Great, Just the area I was thinking. :D
We'd also need a name for our area. We can decide now, or we can wait until we see what the area we're going to is like and decide then.
The Twelfth Bay, anyone?

I like it!
I don't know what W5 H&H is, so I couldn't really help you there.
H&H is Haven and Hearth, another pretty popular multiplayer-wilderness-survival game, W5 being World 5 when things went to shit there.

I had a look at that earlier today and it looks very similar to Wurm, just with faster item creation times and more lag.

Having played Wurm in the past and having read about the Epic servers, I wouldn't suggest starting brand new characters over on Epic.

The Epic servers are mostly for players who've been around a while and gotten their fighting skills to a respectable level already.

Edit - Which is to say, you will be constantly murdered and pillaged by both high level players and insurmountable (as in, the entire village could gang up and still would lose) NPC enemies.

You may be thinking of the old Wild servers, which were basically just PvP versions of Independence, then known as Freedom. The wild servers are the long awaited mission driven servers. When you switch from Freedom Isles to the Epic Cluster, all of your skills are reset to 0. When you travel back your skills will be what they were when you left, so it's a fresh start.

~text~

That's part of the reason I started this thread. If you're in a village with other people, you can travel in groups to avoid getting lost. If you die, those people can help you replace what you lost.

So, if we're switching to Freedom Isles, y37, x44 on the Exodus Map Looks like a good spot to settle. It's in a remote little cove with sand, mountains, and trees and tar only a short boat ride off to the island to the east, which we could also settle on.

Alternatively, just to the north of that cove at  y27,  x47 is a large seaside area encompassing three whole map squares. That would be a brilliant place to settle, but odds are that someone else already has.

Both of these areas will be difficult to get to on land, but we may be able to hire a few boats to transport us over there.

I might be interested in this, I tried getting into it again (LONG time on-and-off player) a week or two ago but couldn't find any good rural areas on Deliverance, which frustrated me due to lack of time and wasting hours with no results so I kind of gave up and eventually became too busy to keep sinking time into sight-seeing deed patched landscapes.

I probably definitely will not join if this goes to a Prem only server, I can afford to prem and do plan on it but not until I hit some form of cap, once I do that I know I'll at least be in it for a semi-long haul.

What can I offer? Probably not a whole lot, I was only Premium once and I think my highest skill was 50~60, but I've remade my character so many times and hit the 20 cap in so many areas that I pretty much know the ins and outs of the game. I generally do pretty much everything that needs to be done, seeing as I've built and lead 2 small-scale Villages on Golden Valley (Vagrant Valley, Vagrant Hill) and pretty much solo'd the rest of my playtime I sort of just became a jack of all trades. I do fancy Carpentry and Ship Building though. ;)

Is there supposed to be some kind of way we group up or something?

There's no party system, so we can either communicate with private messages ingame, or join some kind of voice chat like teamspeak or mumble. Once we get a deed planted we have what's called village chat, so we can all talk to eachother if we're in the range of our village.
There is, kind of. I believe awhile ago Rolf implemented team support where you can join up (more or less temporary, if memory serves the unity dissolves once every member is offline) and get a group private chat, I forget if there's anything more to it than that though.

Hey, did they ever get around to making the graphical side of this game not-horrible? or at least add some more animations?
They have a pretty 'large' graphical team now, It's definitely not happening rapidly but models are being changed fairly often but there's so much to remodel that there's still a lot of old eyesores. Also, I believe they finished overhauling the animation system so the player models are animated, but I don't think it's released so its probably still being tweaked or something.

EDIT: I don't know if anyone's aware but as far as I know, all of those maps are made by players and updated by them and not actual map dumps by Rolf. This means that it's not 100% accurate on deeds (as most of the time this information is given and placed on the map by the deed holder, thus people can opt to not to pitch in) resulting in an unmarked deed-monkey wrench in your plans.

Don't know what you guys are talking about "High leveled people pestering you as a newbie". I saw none on Affliction, they seemed to ignore the newbie area and isolated themselves, or they had travelled to another realm. Like i'm thinking of doing too if we could be on an epic server. And heck, one team of guys helped me when I was about to die against a starving dog, since I had equipped the shield to my hand instead of my arm.

I have no idea how I got premium however. Atleast it seems I do, since I could create on affliction.

I kinda hate my newbie area however, no tar pits. Have to pile up dirst and logs to make charchoal/tar.

Derpderp.

Just few points to clarify.
All Epic servers are free to play except Elevation.
I would really suggest you guys start on some epic server cos it has faster skillgain and its more fun in way if want later on to join PVP action.
All villges on home are fairly safe and there is no fear of Raiding groups.
You can survive without village deed if plan it right.
Im roaming on Elevation which could allways use more people :)

Odd. I could've sworn I read some new player on the forum was scared off because he tried to play on the Epic servers and was swarmed constantly with unlimited giant spiders.

The guards around your newbie area will respond to your "help" whenever you're being attacked nearby your spawn. I've seen tons of creatures dead at HOTS newbie area. And the dogs are kinda kicking my ass still... Might be 'cause of my hatchet. Gonna continue when i'm not on a usb internet. Oh and, you're weak for a reason in this game, I presume.

Come on, someone be a leader and choose a server so we can start this ;D
Btw I played the tutorial and joined a random server, started to level the ground near a lake, then I logged off to come back 6 hours later and see a bunch of people pave a road on my future home site. My friend, whom (or is it who?) I was showing the game to, laughed so hard and now trolls me for being a pussy not defending my land :D

I'd like to go to the Jenn Kellen server. I know alot of people from a long time ago. And from my memory, I remember them being nicer then the other guys.

All epic home servers are free to play max 20 skill.
Allso getting 5 silvers ingame is easy and can buy some premium time.

Tis true. I've lead quite alot of people, including several suicide rushes with a bunch of new people. Cave bugs hurt, alot.
