Train toughness by drowning?
« on: March 02, 2012, 10:14:34 pm »

I just started a peasant character with +strength, ++agility, +toughness.  No empathy, musicality or linguistics to pay for it all.

With the ramps on riverbanks, I decided to save myself some skill points and learn swimming the hard way.
In climbing through dabbling to novice, I gained a category in toughness and endurance!

Surely regular swimming doesn't boost you like that?

Face down the moist reaper to toughen your soul, and forget how to be tired at the same time!

I've noticed that things that would stress a certain ability highly tend to train it- the most obvious example is that fighting to over-exertion and past seems to significantly train Willpower and Endurance.  Even ordinary swimming trains Strength, the Endurance is probably from enduring the drowning status.

If only it was true in real life... but I am afraid all the beatings and mockery from others did not really train my "social awareness" and "empathy" one single bit. In the end, strength, toughness and agility had to come to the rescue and save the day.

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.

Should watch Surviving the Cut: Special Forces Diver. You'd be surprised what a little near drowning can do for people.
