So, I just found this game called Heroes and Generals. I thought I would share it, because it seems to be the type of game bay12's like.

It seems to be playing much like a mix between risk-like games and battlefield (The ww2 ones). Or as they describe it on their site:
"Heroes & Generals is a Massive Online FPS with a Strategic Multiplayer Campaign, taking place in the European theater of war during WWII. ‘Heroes’ refer to the players engaged in the FPS-part of the game and ‘Generals’ refer to the players managing the resources and commanding Assault Teams (army units) in the Strategy-part of the game."

The game is still in alpha, so if you want to try it out you have to sign up for the beta.

This is footage from the game. It's their latest development video log:

Even if the graphics are not the best, the concept sounds very interesting to me. I hope to get to try it out sometimes soon.

Anyway, game site with information, beta registration and community right here:

In regards to the bicycle in the video, do you know if a player ride it in battle and fire from it?  :P

The game looks nifty, definitely worthy of keeping an eye on.

Sadly no, as I have not yet had the time to try the game out.

But I do find the thought of biking casually around the battlefield with a bazooka destroying tanks very entertaining.

I don't know about you guys, but the fact that you can ride a bicycle really sells the game for me.  :P

Anyways the game looks awesome, and I'll probably sign up eventually. However one thing worries me about the game, namely the fact that nobody seems to be taking cover in any of the videos. In fact, in one video (I can't remember which one exactly) two players are standing completely out in the open, strafing side to side while spewing bullets at each other. If I wanted to do that I'd play Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. If somebody who has actually played the game could comment about that I'd be happy.

NINJAEDIT: I can just see us forming a regiment called the "Bay12 Bicycles" in the game.

Looks like what WWIIOL tried to be. I'm intrigued, especially with the strategic-level component. Like the multi-seat vehicles. Nothing more fun than driving a tank/plane/whatever with real human gunners onboard.

And hells yes, I'm all about a Bay12 bicycle infantry unit. My guess is that you'd have to use bicycle infantry like dragoons (ride to the battle, but dismount to fight).

All noobs shall be automatically assigned to Soviet infantry positions. With no guns.

I'm in the alpha, i think driver and gunner are combined if im not remembering incorrectly.

oddly enough the population i saw on my first alpha was really really low.

and you can't shoot and byicle also it's pretty much run and gun at the moment.

tho that might change, all weapons expect the tanks maingun feels a tad off but then again alpha.

Huh. I assumed from the vehicle indicator in the lower left that the red dot showed your "seat" in the vehicle and the other green dots were open seats. I could see having a combined gunner/driver functionality if only one person is available (otherwise 1p tanks would be at a serious disadvantage), but I wonder if the functionality *is* there if you have more people in a vehicle. Looks like there should be room for a driver, main gunner, and two side gunners. I'd think larger aircraft would have a pilot and tail gunner/turret gunner, and bombers should have crew positions all over the place. Be interesting to see if they allow any ad hoc infantry transport (grunts riding on the outsides of armored vehicles, etc.).

Given that the soldier models also featured tank crews (Allied and German), I'm wondering if the damage model means your tank could be disabled but still allow you to bail out through the hatch and try to run for it/keep fighting.

I have, which is why I'm so excited for this game. The number of shooters with peddle power is probably next to zero, and the thought of riding on a bicycle an sniping tanks with a bazooka/panzerfaust amuses me greatly.

EDIT:

it's pretty much run and gun at the moment.

Damn.

EDIT2: FAQ for the game. It turns out that your account is locked to a faction during a war (though you can change it in between wars), so if the world is going to fear the paced tread of our pedals, we should probably co-ordinate which side we're going to join. Wars will only last for 6~8 weeks though, so it shouldn't be a big problem though.

woot, just got my alpha invite. Sadly, most of the play sessions are while I'm at work, but hopefully I'll get a crack at it Sunday afternoon.

I'm loving the title, I'm finding myself agreeing with the fact a general can never be a true hero.  :)

I have to say I'm a little worried about the concept though. It seems like RTS/FPS has been cursed by The Great Voodoo God of Gaming ever since their mental conception. So many have come and gone and so many have always failed to bring the population needed for such a game mode. If this is more of a smaller player focused multiplayer like 2v2 where you can phatom leap into units when things are going bad I can see this as maybe surviving with the niche groups.
It reminds me of "4x lite" a term I use to explain games such as Empire Earth 2 and Empire at War. A genre where it's a turn based and highly "Risk"-inspired games that tries it hand at basic RTS when players attacks.

I'm hoping they consider fleshing out the AI because as I've stated before Multiplayer games generally tend to bomb quite quickly unless they can really find the right auidence.
Also the narator in the trailer sounded funny to me. It reminded me of Company of Heroes where Americans are trying to do really bad accents of Germans.
