What to do with my quadriplegic vampire?
« on: March 02, 2012, 12:41:44 am »

50 hammer strikes can hurt anyone, it turns out.  I had a nice little burrow carved out for my vamp once he got through the justice system, but it turns out that he will never walk, or grasp, again, thanks to a nasty spinal injury.  (Neither can he breathe, but turns out that's not such a big deal.)  He just sits there at the well, constantly cleaning himself.

Any ideas of something interesting I can do with this guy?

Use him as bait in an elf goblin drowning trap?

Surround him by fortifications and use him as an ambush detection system?

Seal him in a cube of pure adamantine so that your fort can NEVER fall?

sacrifice him to contaminate a pool of water with his blood and turn your whole fort into vampires?

Drop him down a shaft to the Clownhouse, and kill most of the Clowns with a well placed cave-in while there all gathered around the poor guy.

Make a temple for him
If you can, find a way to make him bleed but not die. Once you figure that out, make monthly blood sacrifices to either
A) Make blood run down the staircase or
B) Have dwarves drink it and become vampires

you can weaponize vampires by sticking them in a lookout tower outside your fort to scout for ambushes
they dont ever die of natural causes, so that makes them a perfect scout

+ - fortification
V - vampire
H- Channel

HHHHH
H+++H
H+V+H
H+++H
HHHHH

Someone should really try that out

oh yeah and of course seal the top with a roof

this one is all scabby and infectishey, so he can creep out the ambushers as a bonus

Well, there's good news and more good news!  He responds to station orders and he's apparently unable to prey upon my dwarves.

And since he's constantly oozing blood and pus anyways, he's going to be pretty much the simplest well of unlife ever.  Order him into a channel and pour water onto him.

Any ideas if different vampire curses do different things?  I've got three others at a quarantined barracks-- if one curse is better than another, maybe I should figure out the curses before making a well of unlife?

Vampires should regenerate spinal injuries.

Indeed. Much good Science has been conducted into the field of vampires already, but no one has yet asked 'Will it bounce?'

After you do the 'Will it Bounce?' you should try 'Will it blend?' with *Adamantine Large, Serrated Disks*.

I just realized two things. 1. For the Win and F___ the World have the same initials. 2. They have the same meaning in Dwarf Fortress.

Get a were-creature to bite him, for healing his injuries

Adventure mode has shown that you can't be both a were-creature and a vampire.

I had a dwarf vampire receive 100 hammerstrikes. The hammerer wielded a masterwork silver war hammer so it had to hurt. Basicly every bone was broken(head still unhurt though) and it passed away after my doc stopped the endless surgery for getting a drink(actually got dehydrated). Don't know if it bled out or died from the countless infections.

So much for my hopes of getting a wheelchair vamp. :(
