blood barrels
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:46:05 pm »

Ok, I am getting ready to test the blood gas diffuser on the incarcerated vampire.

However, I don't see blood listed in the stockpile designation options.

Other than defining a dump, and dumping the barrel of blood at the site, is there a way to define a stockpile that contains only blood barrels?

As far as I know there's no stockpile option for blood.  The closest thing is 'extracts'/'venoms'/'milk'  under "creature (extract)"  under  "food".

Try  Refuse>Item Types>(disable all except)Liquid
I'm not sure if blood falls under that though.

I *think* blood counts as an extract.

Stupid McVampire got stuck in the magma chamber. Had to savescum.

Before that though, the barrel fell into the magma, but did not explode.
Is this because I have temperature turned off?

That would be one reason.  Also barrels don't explode ever, though you may get "blood steam" I'm not sure.

That's precisely what I want.   Iirc, wooden barrels catch fire, and the contents boil out in a big cloud. (Fire in the stockpile causes a chain reaction)

Will I need to drop the barrels "near" the magma, then create a fire in some fashion?

Perhaps build a screwpump over the site, so that I can get the vampire to pump magma into the barrels? (Vampire is magmasafe.)

If you have any lignite or coal about...

Code: [Select]
Side View:
##H##
%%_##
## ##
That is, you pump magma onto a tile, and it drains down quickly because the magma is dumping onto a grate.  That grate is lignite, and catches aflame.  Immediately after, you pull the hatch above, and drop the blood barrel onto the flaming lignite bin, setting the barrel on fire and boiling the contents.  Could also be done with, say, a wood cabinet that is briefly awash to be set aflame, or any furniture.

Not sure if boiling blood will actually do anything at all though.

It was reported that blood rain getting all over vampires makes them not eat dwarves.

This is an experiment to replicate that report. Either it works, or it doesn't.

The same rig will be used to test vaporized alcohol administration.

Its unfortunate blood isn't a true liquid like water/magma, or you could create blood 'water'falls at major intersections, sating vampire's need for blood and giving dwarves a happy thought at the same time for the fact its a waterfall (bloodfall).

Ok. I have a (nonmagmasafe.. but this is one time use!) Screwpump installed where it will flood a tiny room which has a drain back into the room below.

I have built a wooden bed in the room.

I have dropped a cowblood barrel into the room next to the bed.

I am saving for science now.  I will enable temperature, then activate the pump using the vampire.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this should catch the bed and barrel on fire if successful, right?

Hmmm... Is it possible to make a rock pot out of lignite and avoid a lot of these steps? Item lights item, etc.

In theory, except you can't buy "cow blood (lignite pot)" from the caravan, which is currently the only vanilla source of barreled blood.  So, we must make it complicated.

... Oh. I was thinking we could process an animal to get it somehow... Hadn't actually looked into it, really, just thought there was an 'extract from animal' command, or something like that. Figured that might pull out blood.
