The point is Misogyny is not a serious problem.
Actually Misogyny, racism, and pretty much every other human ill is seething on Reddit in full force. That doesn't mean Reddit is incapable of being useful to some degree, but let's not kid ourselves. Reddit is home to KKK subreddits, MRA subreddits, etc. Saying that it's not a serious problem on Reddit because of a 13% female userbase is like saying misogyny is not a serious problem in the real world despite a ~50% female userbase.
Edit: Though I wonder what metric you're using to constitute a 'serious problem'?
>article is about reddit banning all subreddits even remotely related to child porn
>child porn is seething on reddit in full force
Seems you might be a little biased, there. The thing with Reddit is that it's pretty much completely free speech. The admins and mods try to keep their opinions out of what they do, but sometimes they have to make a stand with things like CP. It's as if someone posted CP on these forums- the mods would be like, "Dude." and immediately remove the picture, ban the user, and eyebleach. That's what happened on Reddit too. There has
never been a CP subreddit for more than 10 minutes on the site. What is discussed in that article is things like (NON-NUDE) jailbait, although it did get down below what would be considered "normal" jailbait. Again, however, nothing that was legally CP was ever allowed on reddit. But, under pressure from the SA forums, Reddit did decide to shut down any subreddits that could
possibly have been in the "creepy zone." Now, fucking Wikipedia has more CP on it than Reddit does.
On any discussion board, there's always a balance struck between true free speech and necessary moderation. Reddit is more free speech-y, for better or worse. The fact that you guys are characterizing a site with 4 million users (5.5 million, but people have alt accounts, some are inactive, banned, etc.) by TINY SUBREDDITS (white rights, also known as "the kkk subreddit" has 500 readers) is like judging the entire human race because, to use your example, the kkk exists.
Just check out
the top-scoring links on the gaming subreddit. Just discussions. Some pun threads. Cool pictures and videos. Shitty posts get downvoted and hidden quickly by the crack team of random dudes browsing all new posts, so you hardly ever have to see them. That's why I like reddit, and that's why I don't understand why people hate on it so much, because it's mostly just normal, just like real life.
