As the firefight begins... the artillery falls behind the Mujahadeen, the Spetsnaz take casualties and the scout force diverts to support them.

Do you know how big a single hex is in RL measurements?

And I'm guessing firing consecutive rounds with same guns in the same area don't make it more accurate (assuming arty observers are present)?

The firefight continues, the artillery blows the Mujahadeen away and our Gunship lets rip the rockets!

Do you know how big a single hex is in RL measurements?

And I'm guessing firing consecutive rounds with same guns in the same area don't make it more accurate (assuming arty observers are present)?

I think its 50m hexes. Also several things effect arty accuracy -

A good line of sight, which is hard cause this ground is so hilly.
A radio.
A good radio with GPS.
A good range finder.

Our observers are basicly radio, binoculars(good vision) and decent no range finder, it was mainly my fault for not anticipating how fast the Mujies would advance, they overan the artillery targets.

Also there isnt any test fire shots, they all fall in the same turn, but each turn I adjust the fire, bringing it closer as they advance.

*Also, we lost a man to a stray arty shell  :P
*Our MRLS are now out of ammo. We still have 203mm cluster munitions and our 122mm arty shells tho, so the rain upon them Mujahadeen will continue.

And the game keeps track of those? Cool. Usually artillery in games is just big explosions coming from the sky seemingly at random.

I have to disagree with the above gentlemen. Flank the enemy with tanks and keep the pressure on with artillery if possible. Ideally we'd push the fleeing enemy right under an artillery barrage.

I'm in agreement with Delta Foxtrot. Why close to engage an enemy and risk more Spetsnaz? Let the tanks finish them off and run them into more artillery as they retreat. If this were WH40k, I'd say sure, fix bayonets and charge. But avoiding unnecessary attrition should be a primary focus.

Even if they have RPGs I'm guessing they are less than effective against battle tanks.

The tanks are well positioned to flank, the arty is already targeted on the Mujahadeen, with any luck the combination will destroy them all. It seems that the AI sent EVERYTHING into that valley towards the Spetsnaz, unlucky for us.

They have RPGs... pretty shit ones but they go boom on you.

You don't really know if there are hidden enemy units.Going in with the ambush we'd have the element of double surprise with our tanks once the enemy pulls out any hidden units.

So far we've lost 4 spetsnaz and 1 soldier. I forgot to dismount my HQ, and the mujies shot at us on a tank, killing one.

I don't think were in any position to advance infantry, I think we should stick to artillery and tanks until they are nearly destroyed, the finish them up.

Probably, as to whether the AI buys any.... shrug. If they don't buy any in 1983, ill cheat and give them one or two for realism.
*Also, i've just realised our transport Mi-8's have 57mm rockets on them, some awesome additional firepower. They will join the fight and assist the tanks.
**but the hind is down to only 7.62 machinegun rounds.

This has really helped actually. You spotted most of the troops, and allowed for good artillery targets. Also your rockets basicly routed the northern flank of their advance.
