Mad video game ideas you just had
« on: February 29, 2012, 10:37:31 pm »

Exactly what it says on the tin: post ideas for video/computer games that you think would be hilarious.

Mine was this: a monkey-island-style point-and-click adventure, in which to get some important plot related thing done, you have to figure out a way to get
Spoiler: this guy (click to show/hide)
to stop singing. and the solution involves combining the Ladder with the Banana Peel and the Powder wig, or something just as ridiculous.

So yeah...

Why would you want to stop Rick singing? :(

No idea. But it would be funny. Especially making the solution so obscure that people start doing random "Use X on Y"s, and then getting it right. And when they solve it, nothing happens apart from Rick stopping, turning to look at the abomination that you just made, and commenting on how ridiculous your attempt to stop him is, then walking away.

I'd like to see an actual "Instant win button" game, if only to see if people would actually play it.

I'd charge a dollar to let people hit the button right away.  Any one who doesn't pay has to wait at least a minute.  Add in a leaderboard that tracks how many times people have won and I've got a game that is mentally equivalent to most free to play games.  :D

i had an idea a while back, would be a board game with multiple types of tiles, like large cardboard puzzle pieces that can all connect with each other, it would be played kinda like D&D i guess. you build the board how you want to and theres no real goal.

300 human/elf/dwarf/goblin/kobold bodies 20 random animal/fish/bird bodies and 3 dragon bodies all in one backpack. fun stuff.

I had a game with a board like that as a kid.  I loved it but we didn't have the rules to it so we made it up as we went along.  :D

I think everyone who plays video games has a couple of these in their head.

The one I keep going back to is a survival / strategy / rpg / somethingorother game in which you play the crew of a crashed colony ship tasked with setting up a self-sustaining colony on a planet only accessible via a wormhole. I haven't worked out all the details but basically the ship crashes because of some sort of wormhole-related accident, and a rescue party won't be able to reach you for a number of years. This was known about beforehand (the "no rescue for X years" part not the crash), so the ship was stocked with enough supplies to last them the entire time, except now the ship has gone boom and what supplies remain are scattered across the surface of the planet, along with the crew who bailed using their escape pods.

So your mission starts as one of survival; gather your crew, construct some sort of habitat either from the wreckage of the ship, from the local flora, or most likely a ramshackle combination of the two. Once you form a stable society with enough food and shelter to last, you begin to attract the attention of the local fauna, and alien tribes. Each tribe is of the same species, but with different customs and behaviors. These could be randomised each time you play. Maybe the red tribe greets you by jumping up and down and hooting (which turns out to be a friendly gesture), but the next time they start throwing rocks at you (probably not friendly). I hope you kept the xenolinguist alive, because you're going to have issues communicating with them otherwise (and even then).

You can use salvaged weapons and equipment for a while, but eventually they're going to run out of power cells or break down. To survive, you'll need to go native. You'll need to learn which plants are edible and which aren't ("Damn, the botanist is dead... hey John, taste these purple ones for me!") and learn how to farm the ones that are. You'll need to learn to deal with the local wildlife ("Sir, it appears we have made camp on the mating grounds of the local megafauna." "What?" "The big ones are going to murder us if we stay here sir."), learn to use renewable sources of energy ("No more laser cells available sir, but I've sharpened these sticks..."), treat any injuries that crop up with limited resources... you'll start off looking like star trek, and end up looking like mad-max.

You know what? It would make a great dwarf fortress mod now that I put it all down on paper :)

CoD as an edutainment game. No real idea how that would work.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

The History Channel made a game like that, based around the American Civil War. It's less awesome than it sounds.

Randomly generated everything first person survival adventure set on a planet. Physics based randomly generated creatures, physics based everything gameplay, a weapon would be picking something tough up and then start bashing at those terrific randomly generated creatures, for food, for survival.

Hey, you know those boss rush modes some games have? And, you know that game Super Mario Crossover?

What if there was a game that put those two together, and let you fight against a huge array of bosses from various games arranged in a random order? Maybe even more than one at once?

A battletech themed wargame + cardgame using maptools with megamek sprites and magic workstation with custom cards.

...

Oh wait, I'm nearly done making that already. Just needs testing after the last few sprites are converted...

I woiuld like to see such an adveture game where every item found could be combined once and that there were multiple sollutions to overcome a a problem.
Such as a locked door, would you try to lockpick it? Would you attempt to break it down?
Would you try to get inside by crawling in a window?
Or would you simply persuade the owner of letting you inside?
