Artifacts - mostly useless- help me find a use.
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:10:20 pm »

So I've been playing this fort(my 3rd or 4th) for a while now.  In that time, I have amassed two pages of artifacts. unfortunately most of these have been of little excitement for me.  I did just recently discover candy and my last two moods have been made of it.  but just exactly what i'm going to do with a candy scepter I don't know.  that's the point of this post.  Help me figure out what to do with these artifacts.

Please note that the steel spears are just regular spears that the militia has bestowed names upon.

Table is in the main dining hall
Statue is in the main dining hall too.
I have used one of the mechanisms in a weapon trap
I have used the admantine hammer for my official dwarf beater
I gave the jabberer bone spear to one of my militiary dwarfs
One of the thowns went into my baron's thrown room.
I think i built the grate too but it is just along my busy path so that people can see it.
I don't think i've used any of the shields.

edited to add where the statue and table were.  Those are all the easy ones, the others are pretty much worthless.  can I atom smash them if I don't have a use?  does it cause a bad thought I assume?  Can I melt them?  I kindof want my candy back from the stupid scepter.

What?!! Bone spears are absolutely badass!!

Granted, you might want to give the Dwarf wielding it a few more weapons as well :P

What about the multitude of artifact steel spears? You could make a squad or two with those :P

Bone weapons of any kind I generally give to a dwarf titled "Priest to Armok" who regularly executes stunned goblins dropped into my entertainment arena. Blood for the blood god and all that.

Also, artefacts that can burn will burn forever. Can be good or bad depending on how you decide to use it. But yeah, most just lie around and look pretty (or awful, like that donkey leather flute some guy posted about a few months back)

Give the bluestone hammer to the Captain of the guard/hammerer so his punishings aren't as fatal.
Bracelets scepters ETC are pretty much useless.
Use mechanisms in  traps for epic hitrate (i suggest linking them with 10 glass/steel discs for maximum hillarity)
Place the slate door somewhere you want to lure building destroyers or as a last peremiter defense against building destroyers (legendary furniture is indestructible)
Give the slate throne to some noble because artifacts are usually worth quite a lot.
The Bismuth buckler is probably quite good since military dwarves like bo shield bash from time to time and bismuth is ok for that.

Put them in a stockpile outside your fort, if kobolds take them it will make for interesting history. (Also it will inspire them to ambush more)

This could spiral awesomely if the artifact bugs have been fixed.

Artifact doors are among the most powerful and useful of any artifacts.

With it, you can build an impenetrable, instantly securable entrance to any room; you can separate building destroyers from other kinds of creatures; you can build a tarpit for FBs or clowns.  (You can conquer the circus with it and <5 pieces of blue stuff.)

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

Arifact toys, and other useless artifacts make great !!space heaters!!.

Artifacts made of flammable materials are never fully consumed once set on fire. This makes them a useful alternative to "thermonuclear coal bins" in places where you want lots and lots of heat.

Also, all artifacts have an incredibly important function: attracting more things for you to kill.

ohh I like the door idea and seperating building destroyers.

The spears are all just regular spears that the military has given names too.  They are not all artifacts in the sense they were crafted by mooded dwarfs.
