Struck Adamantine!
A dwarf started digging it.
Shit. Novice miner.

Adamantine, IIRC, has a 100% mining chance.

... and leaves me in utter suspense while I wait for him to slowly and gingerly tap the walls instead of a legendary +5 doing what he does best.

There once was a stout dwarven lass
With a truly magnificent ass
Her rejection most rude
Put me in a fell mood
And they claim my new codpiece is crass

Bwahaha

I lived in the fortress Hellcannon
It used to be a fort free of salmon
My turn came around
I put spikes in the ground
They sent me up to die anon

Here rains an evil rain
A goo that is quite heinous
On the map its a great stain
It's truly truly truly outrageous
And ugly 'cos I'm vain
But I lol when elves turn inside-out through their anus

Ok. I'll bite.

T'is a a tale of Urist McMiner,
Who longed for plump helmets inside her.
Seems she fell down the well, where they grew quite swell,
But she died from a giant cave spider.

A noble, bearded and clever,
Happened on a mysterious lever!
But when let fly, magma fell from the sky
Ending his curious endeavor.

There once was a fort of prospectors,
Overrun by small animal dissectors.
A titan came by, and then they did die,
In a valiant game of dwarf checkers.

Oh man. A haiku thread. I'm so rusty it's not funny.

Oh well, I always did have fun trying these, so, here goes.

In the interest of edification and intellectualism, I have attempted to illustrate the proper form of the haiku. Please read and be enlightened.

In the murky pool
A cave crocodile leaps in
The sound of water

Moonlight filters through
The vast wormy tendril grove
A werepenguin cries

Fields of longland grass
Nothing else is left behind
Of a warrior's dreams

Along this wide road
None go past this autumn eve
It is above ground

Butterfly perfumes
Its wings in the heady scent
Of the miasma

Spring has now arrived
This morning a nameless hill
Bathes in evil mist

It is deep autumn
I think about my neighbor
Is he a vampire?

Now that's some proper haiku! Love it!

Big props for the Basho reference.

Caravan unpack'd,
Dry earth crumbles underfoot
Scorching desert winds

Deep caverns calling
A lone dwarf's echoing gasp
Silence in the earth

Cool evening breeze
Weary miners return home
Water drips softly

I always hated haiku. (A bias I still harbor too...)

They strike me as needlessly cryptic, disjointed, and unnatural forms of communication.

I won't hate on people who like them... just that I personally don't. I prefer the limmericks, which are quirky, silly, and fun. Haiku are dry leaves in a cold wind next to the drunken party at the pub of limmericks.  *shrug*

Ooh, hey, dry leaves in a cold wind--that would make a great basis for a haiku!

Withered leaves blow by
Cold wind drives them with the dust
The husk does not see

But how about a limerick?

Cried Thob as he worked at the mill,
"There's a pigtail sock on the hill!"
As he crunched through dry leaves
Wind blew dust in his greaves--
So his husk is out roaming there still.

Here goes one. And before someone says something about syllables, I don't really understand how you tell each of them apart in english (and I am not sure I want to).
