Is this still a problem?

Generally, if Toady doesn't mention it in the release notes, it hasn't been fixed.  That bug in particular (along with the broader problem) will probably require some careful work rather than a quick fix.

Decreased questing rate in world gen

What exactly does that mean?  Who (or what) quests during world gen, and what sort of quests?

I'd guess the "hunting great beasts" and "tamed the wild beasts" events.

I was trying to cut down on world gen deaths, and there were 5000 "wander the wilds" deaths in the first 100 years of a large world, which was second to the 11000 from starvation.  Too many adventurers going on too many quests, so I cut down on it a bit.  That'll impact the age name change rate as well, hopefully for the better, though we'll have to see the aggregate of many world gens before we know.

Compiling up a first attempt at the picture crash bug.  If everything goes smoothly I'm hoping to have a new version tonight sometime, with no other changes since I don't want to break things more.  Hopefully it'll work.

Just wondering Toady, but does Reddit hit the forums hard?  I tend to see the forums on the front page quite a bit now.

I haven't been tracking any stats for the forums, but they have been more active and rickety in the month or so leading up to the release.  From the bay12games.com stats, there has been been a Reddit presence for a long time, but I can't quantify it.  My impression is that it has grown.

I'm using Pheobus, so I'm not sure if it's related to that, or the TT fixes you made, but I've got lots of random letters missing from things.
For example in my animal list I have something like
la
lamb
lamb

and when you scroll over the first one it will flash "lamb" in a different color green very briefly, but in the darker green the last 2 letters are missing

I also see stuff like
hammer    ves
and below it
hammer lords
on the stocks screen

Downloaded, Ironhand applied, DFHack applied, new world gen underway. Medium world gen speed seems reasonable so far.

I wish I could enable VBO and have the option to turn truetype on/off using F12. But then maybe I don't fully understand what the OpenGL modes are for. 2D/2DAsync are working pretty well.

Toady, any chance of getting you to enable the Large Address Aware flag by default? It's relatively trivial to patch the exe to do, but I'm just thinking it could save some hassles with memory "bug" reporting. There are certainly no observed issues that I know of.

Hmm. Worldgen hanging altogether at year 450 after I played with toggling truetype on and off. Think I'll kill and re-run.

e: Good opportunity to 4GB-ify it and change to Large world, Long history, minerals everywhere anyway.

Large world gen (all other options standard; only modded by my little chocolate mod) took about an hour instead of four.  Thanks Toady!

Too many adventurers going on too many quests, so I cut down on it a bit.

So during world gen adventurers go out on quests to kill megabeasts?  Huh.  Can you meet these NPC adventurers during adventure mode?

Yeah, they'll even brag about it per usual...  it's just that the ones that succeed are limited.  They look like soldiers and say they have been wandering the wilds.

edit: haven't done large addresses because I'm not sure how many weird bugs are going to crop up, although I'll have to do it eventually for 64 bit anyway.  Not something I'm eager to plunge into, but it'll have to be done.  I don't know how up to specs my libraries are for large addresses.  Some of them like FMOD I won't be able to upgrade if necessary because if I remember they've changed the license.

No worries, thanks.

World gen speed is massively improved! Just need to not switch to/from TTF during the process  :D
