wounded dwarves = marksdwarves....?
« on: May 16, 2008, 01:23:00 pm »

i always hear people say that if they have a soldier with a nervous system injury they make it a marksdwarf. but mine never seem to train that either...does that injury mean that they wont do anything at all?

You need an archery range for marksdwarves to train.

You also need wooden or bone bolts; they won't waste metal bolts on the range.

Note that you make nervous-system-injury dwarves into marksdwarves because they won't spar any more.

On the other hand, if you over trained those dwarves with labor skills before the shift to recruit, they can still make great melee dwarves.  I have had no better than novice skilled armor/weapon/shield dwarves be an absolute dervish of destruction through whole squads of goblins when they had the max str/agi/toughness.

But yeah, for any other peon, they could get the ol' archery range duty.

nope. nope. nope. they have two ranges, several thousand bone/wood bolts, etc. these dwarves trained as wrestlers, busted their necks, and dont train as marksdwarves. they carry around the bow and quiver, with bolts, but never even get as far as "dabbling". i dont get it... and i dont want them to be melee, cuz i have 18 champions already, so i dont need some half trained guy.

Did you also set the correct shooting direction for your archery ranges?
And are you sure they are off-duty?

If they have a shield equipped, then they can't pick up bolts to practice with. At least, that's how I remember it working. With a shield, they'll only fire bolts straight from the quiver, and the quiver bolts are presumably not practice bolts.
